Dogboarding (Dir. DANIELS)
Not exactly a music video, but...
Dogboarding from DANIELS on Vimeo.
music: "Helena Beat" by Foster the People fosterthepeople.com
then why did you post it?
RADICAL!
Brigs: Ditto.
because it's awesome. duh.
and also because DANIELS were nominated for many categories in the Antville Music Video Awards (videos.antville.org) not that long ago, so i thought it might be an interesting post. didn't know i'd get trolled for it. gotta love the 'villians.
not a music video
thanks for that legion, I'll think you'll need to remind us again as I don't think we can understand the line underneath the title.
I'll echo the words of legion again, just incase someone doesn't get it 'its not a music video'.
I quite like what DANIELS offers here. Its just fun. Nice work.
But it does feature both music and video. How come it's not a music video? What is music video then?
that which sells a song, and not a brand of shoes or a cellphone, is called a music a video
like it and it's quite music video related. keep it up!
The definition of music video has got to be much broader nowadays. Academic researcher that have been studying the medium for decades like Carol Vernallis or Keazor already wrote quite a lot about how music videos have today a much wider scope (and andience).
my name is legion: When you say it should sell a song a not any other comodity you're being quite naive because:
- music videos have always sold other comodities other than music (and it goes beyond product placement, remember the MJ red leather coat on Bad for instance);
- this music video actually sold the music to me: i've just ordered their vinyl on amazon.
And talking about perception see how those guys introduce the video:
@almotasim - i am naive, but:
- antville is a place for cool music videos, 2) this is not a music video, c) this is not a cool music video
You lost me at 2). How come this is not a music video?
ure not paying attention: this is the music video for the band called 'foster the people':
the daniels video is a short film that uses music by 'foster the people'
my guessumption would be that 'dogboarding' is a short film ( www.danieldaniel.us ) made via the idealists, some creative platofmr that funds (?) or helps creative projects get made( just like kickstarter.com, for instance)
and this is how the above is not a music video
holy shit, legion has morphed into antdude. (matei, wh'appen? or is't just sour grapes...)
progosk: I trained my padawan well. :P
@my name is legion:
- music videos ARE short films
- music videos use music
- music videos ARE creative projects
Your only criteria to consider something to be a music video is its context of production and therefore you ignore much more important factors as:
- the medium (music video) itself
- its dissemination
- its audience
- its reception
The fact that antvillers posted this video as a music video and other antvillers consider it truly as one is again another proof of it. What do you make of fandom and vernacular creativity? Are they not music videos as well?
You're just being dogmatic and not paying attention to the fabulous thing that is happening to your object of desire: its spreading and music videos are close to becoming an universal language that unites a growing number of people through the Web. But I guess you prefer to be square and keep hanging to a definition that wasn't even created for a digital medium but a television one.
And then there's your COOL reference that could keep us busy for the next year or so.
- Define cool;
- Define lame;
- Is coolness something that changes with time?
- Can coolness be expressed in objective terms?
- Is coolness an aesthetic category?
- Is COOL the new BEAUTIFUL?
- Trace the origins of the term COOL (Jazz?)
- Isn't coolness a north-american driven value?
- Is coolness a characteristic of an aesthetic object or a consequence of its dissemination? etc. etc.
geez… somebody delete this post already…
brigs: wow,
fuck this thread
legion is the new kansas
I miss Kansas
dude, legion's internationally distributed feature film is gonna be sooooo dope.
And seriously, I don't have anything against Daniels, but did they make a pact with the devil for instant internet love every time they make a video? this is a neat idea and everything, but the execution is pretty underwhelming and the amount of kudos they get per project is strange to me.
come on, dude tried to run this troll thingie, but wont erase the virus, though any other suggestions?
@my name is legion: your last comment really made me laugh. I therefore humbly lie down defeated.
