Is this double anamorphic or something?

its called shooting on the alexa 16:9 and not the alexa 4:3 chip

with the 4:3 chip you need a codex box and post is expensive and the camera is heavy. with the 16:9 chip alexa it squeezes the anamorphic lenses but it dont fit properly into a 16:9 chip......hence the ultra long letter box.

DOP should have shot red epic 5k which converts to TRUE 2:35 or a 4:3 alexa with codex.......or they both liked the ultra letterbox as seen inn the robyn promo for call your boyfriend or the new justin beiber promo with michael madsen

I think a lot of people are shooting in this format but generally they are cropping into the image rather than using the full frame. Personally I'm not a fan because unless a video is going to be viewed in like a theatrical imax setting or something, you're really just losing a lot of screen real estate.

The video is nice.

I can't explain why, but the whole music video reminds me of Trance Mallick's "Tree of Life"
