Alex Rutterford
I don't know if any of you all are aware of him, but he's a pretty good three dimensional animator-type-guy.
Two of these videos are already here, I just thought they'd get along more nicely together.
At Resfest, during the Warp retrospective, the only video (besides the Chris Cunningham ones) to get any response was "Granz Graf" - the crowd went nuts.
verbal, though, is a terrible terrible terrible shame of a video. terrible. shame.
verbal is one of those videos where you see a 5 second clip of it and think "fuck yeah, the new Amon Tobin video!!!" then you see the whole thing and think "fuck, the new Amon Tobin video is boring."
Granz Graf makes you wonder what came first, the music or the video, i dont think either could really co-exist without each other. Rutterford has been a little quiet since 'go to sleep' over a year ago, the only thing i think he did this year was the opening titles for onedotzero festival.
yeah he's really great. Know that he's also a graphic designer and helped design all three director label dvd's (and I believe but am not sure) he's doing the next three as well.
There's a pretty detailed little interview Warp did with him in 2002.
What's so bad about verbal? I read this interview with him before I saw it, maybe it affected me some. I like how it sort of has elements of gondry's "star guitar" and though you may not agree, I think is sustains the viewer's attention all the way through despite it being just a race. I think racing is a bit overused, I guess.
