Pronti Al Peggio: Ex-Otago
Ex Otago are amazing freak-poppers from Genova, Italy. Walking around with them is the same as being with the major of the cities. Watch them singing their cover of an immortal dance classic. The rest of it on Prontialpeggio
Neutral Mute - SOE (Dir. Raafi Rivero)
.
A mashup of Japanese fashion advertising and gritty NYC for the band Neutral Mute. State of Elation may be a cologne, or a mindstate, but it definitely has energy.
Watch SOE in HD here. More from director Raafi Rivero here.
music video auteurs: Hal Hartley
Despite nary a mention in keef's recent feature director playlists, Hal Hartley was one of the more interesting video auteurs. Here are three instances of his œuvre:
Everything But The Girl - The only living boy in New York
Yo La Tengo - From a Motel 6 As the label notes, this video was deemed unsatisfactory and replaced by David Kleiler's reshoot.
(Incidentally, these last two videos are a perfect starting point for a fascinating dive into 90's music videos as seen through the lens of cable mv show My Part Of The Thing - but that's another story...)
The Buddy System - Return To Horse Mountain (Dir. Kangaroo Alliance)

Foxx on Fire - "Mission Abort" - Director Edward Housden

Here's a new video from unsigned Fox on Fire called "Mission Abort". It's the third single for the Melbourne group and in true indie, DIY fashion the video was directed by the keyboardist. They describe it as an "apocalyptic disco-noir classic" which feels to us like a cross between Interview with a Vampire, The Phantom of the Opera and Saturn Night Fever. In the end it is one of the most entertaining videos to fly under the radar.
