Today's dose of Boing Boing tv is an experimental rock animation oddity featuring one of our favorite directors, Syd Garon. It's a music video for To My Surprise, a band led by The Clown (Shawn Crahan) from nu-metal heavyweights Slipknot.The rest of the post includes a funny story on how band members specified many disparate elements that absolutely had to appear in the video, and how the directors made it all work, and tried to explain it to the bewildered record label.The video was directed and animated by Syd Garon and Eric Henry with illustrations by Doug Cunningham (of Morning Breath), Lee Ballard, Cristie Henry and The Clown's daughter, who was 6 years old at the time.

Factory Films director Tom Haines recently grabbed our attention with a badass video for Austin, Texas' own White Denim. It's been more than two weeks since we wrote that story, or any story for that matter (due to impending Sundance deadlines), but we were fortunate to be contacted by the man himself accepting our open invite to do this interview series. In this edition of Thirteen and 1/2 Questions we'll touch on the motives and madness behind the "Shake Shake Shake" video and next time we speak with Tom we'll be sure to more adequately question his need to burn things. I wanted to make another video for Dusk Till Dawn just for fun, so I asked a bunch of friends to send in webcam footage of themselves singing and dancing along to the song.
