This song personifies drug addiction, likening it to the love of a woman and has been described as “classic pop” by critics, comparing its sound to that of Michael Jackson.
This track also marked the first collaboration between The Weeknd and powerhouse pop producer Max Martin.
“Can’t Feel My Face” is the third single from The Weeknd’s second studio album; it leaked along with “In The Night” and “Acquainted,” (which was leaked as an imcomplete track referred to as “Girls Born in the ‘90s”) on May 25, 2015. The song later premiered live at Apple’s WWDC, in conjunction with the announcement of the Apple Music service.
“Can’t Feel My Face” was The Weeknd’s first solo pop hit, without the aid of Ariana Grande or the Fifty Shades of Grey film. As such, it marked the completion of The Weeknd’s four-year transition from niche alternative R+B to bona fide pop stardom. The song eventually reached #1 on the Billboard chart for three nonconsecutive weeks.

When the guys told me that the idea for the song was based on a man being dumped by his girlfriend in the morning whilst he is still half a sleep, I thought I’m in!
The narrative for the video is a woman carrying a sleeping/dreaming man over her shoulder as they journey closer towards the man’s fate. This mixed in with a dream sequence and a purple eyed frog (the saint) spawning a brand new heart for our main character; the video takes you on a classic psychedelic crazy Sebaldo/Cairobi style journey.
I concentrated on the idea of a break-up being a new lease of life, a beginning, not an end. That’s why I liked the idea of the frog and the frog-spawn which was inspired by the front cover of the new Cairobi album.
As always with the guys they let me pretty much run free with this and the video actually ended up being quite personal to me which from some of the stuff that’s in there could be seen as being quite worrying. I really connect with Cairobi’s music and hopefully that comes across in the video. Iv heard the song a thousand times and I still love every little second of it!

SONIC UNION AND DIRECTOR ROBERT BROADHURST INVOKE A DIGITAL ESCAPE IN NEW ADIDAS Y-3 CAMPAIGN FILM
Sonic Union mix engineer Brian Goodheart and sound designer Owen Shearer unite with director Robert Broadhurst to bring the futuristic aesthetic of the Adidas Y-3 Spring/Summer 2017 collection to life in a surreal new campaign film from Blackrose NYC. Written and directed by Broadhurst, the story unfolds in a sleek, dystopian universe as two protagonists face off against an oppressive surveillance regime. The artist Son Lux provides an eerie, dreamlike score that amplifies the artful mosaic of stylized, impressionistic scenes that showcase the brand’s futuristic sportswear, footwear and signature color palette.
“The SS17 collection had a specific cinematic feeling that all I wanted to do was build a beautiful world around it and let it emanate this strange and hopefully entertaining story,” Noted director Robert Broadhurst. “I was incredibly lucky that Blackrose and Y-3 loved the concept and gave it so much support – that’s the greatest part of working with a forward-looking brand, especially as a new director. It was exciting to explore some of the contemporary anxieties that I find really enrich Yohji Yamamoto’s famous notion of ‘clothing as armor.’ And, as with all things sci-fi, the sound design and mix were particularly vital to the film. Brian worked his magic to elevate it beyond the high standard we had achieved the last time around and once again helped refine story through sound.”
This is a recurring collaboration between Goodheart and Broadhurst, having previously collaborated on the recent Y-3 Autumn/Winter 2016 campaign film.
