Postal Service - We Will Become Silhouettes
The latest video from fun pop side project The Postal Service. After dedicating a small tour to the real US Postal Service to solve some legal issues concerning their namesake, they have finally managed to free up enough time to work under the unique direction of Jared Hess, director of the film Napoleon Dynamite. While the brilliant Jon Heder (Napoleon himself) does not make an appearance, the video continues the same retro-yet-timeless aesthetics of the movie. See for yourself.
A+
am I the only person who thought Napolean Dynamite was "eh" ? It felt like a 4th rate Welcome to the Dollhouse.... this video is decent enough, though - the ending kind of won me over.
I very much disliked Napoleon Dynamite, but for once I agree with lusk. This video's great!
Oh, feel the marvelous kitsch.
OK, so what's so great about the ending?
I loved Napoleon Dynamite and I love this song (which came out forever ago - why are they doing a vid for it now?), but this video kinda fell flat for me. I mean, it's cute in that wholesome Mormon way, but I dunno ---
Maybe I'm just a dick and don't get it.
It's certainly not for everybody.
I think it's really good.
venturi: the ending - when it shows them in costumes on a hill - with prepared snacks - I dunno it really spoke to me. Kind of reminded me of being a kid and the older siblings/cousins plan a play, to perform for the parents, and you're just happy to get a small supporting role.
I think what is good with that kind of video is that the mocking is never negative or agressive (like with the torrance dance community theater in the fatboy slim vid). I dig that kind of utopia "you can do it".
So good. love the dehydrator and other random 1980s gems. The can opener, the synthesizer. all so good. However, I don't want to go back to then which makes this the perfect way to remember it. A three minute window into the past. Nice. Worth another viewing.
Is the last shot a reference to something? Star wars...the Last Starfighter? Should I know this already?
