seriously, it's the quickest way to spot a shitty director or editor

         

CaptainMarc, What does your post mean? What's "flash frames"? I'm new to all this.

         

flash frames are when the editor includes the bits of overexposed film that appears between takes. Earliest I can remember is Tarsem's REM "Losing my Religion" - that was 92 or so - a lot of directors began to shoot by continually turning the camera off, forcing flash frames galore.

It's one of those things that first time or hack directors/editors love to do.

It was used all throughout Man On Fire and worked ok.

I don't think it's always bad.

I always hate it when a video edit competes with a personna. (particullary sexy one's)

The piece moves with the required, god knows why, time honored cutting but I feel like I actually get to see the chicks.

I've found I really like Simply Red's video "Sunrise" for the same reason..
