The Arcade Fire - "Rebellion (Lies)"
quicktime here
oh look an mtv video, thank god you put that on here otherwise i might never have seen it!
MTV hates Mac users. Mac users who like the Arcade Fire feel sad.
..and, the arcade fire live on conan..: amandaudoff.typepad.com
1manguy, thanks for posting the video. Ignore replay. I don't have MTV, and, in fact, I do the vast majority of my video watching via videos.antville.org, so if stuff doesn't get posted here, I'll probably never see it.
Alas, in this particular case, I still haven't seen it; as Captainmarc says, the MTV site seems inexplicably biased against Mac users. Anybody have a direct link for a Mac-friendly file of this video?
replay poops in his pants
guess what?? apparently i poop in my pants, how cool are you himot, man when will i be as whitty as you? and jacob if you like music videos so much, why do u do all your watching in here, surely you should be out there making you own opinions on what u like rather than watchin what other people tell u to watch? and binkystick, fair enough maybe i do whine but where would the world be without people that whine enough to make things different and new? it would be a very boring place indeed. :)
Mtv is so pc.
gotta be honest...vid is not so special could be a budget thing though...I am sure MERGE doesn't have much money to spend on videos
Replay, I like music videos enough that I want to see the best and most interesting videos, but not enough to sit through an hour of mediocre stuff on MTV to see the one cool video that somehow snuck in there. So I'm delighted when somebody takes the time to post that one cool video here.
When I have the time, I will indeed surf the web looking for good videos--but, again, there's so much crap out there that it's hard to find the good stuff. That's the point of this site; when people find the good stuff, they post it here, and it doesn't really matter whether they originally saw it on MTV or projected on a sheet in the basement of a tiny smoke-filled club.
With a collaborative website like Antville, there are two ways to try to shape it to your own personal taste. One is to discourage other people from posting stuff you don't like; the other is to take the initiative and post stuff that you do like. The first method might make sense if a site has an overwhelming amount of traffic, but Antville gets maybe one or two videos posted a day. Godard once said that the best way to criticize a movie is to make another movie; I'd say the best way to criticize someone for posting a video is to post a better video.
For example, the videos you've posted here have left me cold, but I didn't see any reason to post something in the thread castigating you for posting them (which, sadly, some people did.) Like I said, Antville is low traffic right now, and it's easy enough for me to take a quick look at a video, decide it's not my cup of tea, and move on. I'd much rather do that (and have my notion of what makes a good video challenged while I'm at it) than miss out on something cool and interesting that I wouldn't see elsewhere.
I'm not saying you shouldn't contribute to the discussion if you don't like the video; part of what makes this site interesting is seeing thoughtful critiques of the work that's posted. But there's a difference between "This video didn't work for me because of X, Y, and Z" and "This video sucks and you suck for posting it."
This isn't just directed at you, Replay-- a comment like "Replay poops his pants" is not exactly likely to raise the level of conversation, either.
when you type "cool music video" in google video.antville.org is the first result but if you type "music video" it's at the third page.
Didn't himot direct that "mazed and crazed" video? Replay probably does poop his pants though.
hey langdonaller i see you have joined the pethetic comment crew! well done
best thread ever.
Has anyone seen this video?
captainmarc: Nope. Still waiting for a mac link.
Here's a direct link to the video: www.mtv.com
The MTV website has a really lame plugin detector that wouldn't allow the video to play in a non Internet Explorer browser (i'm not even sure if there really is a Windows Media player plugin for Firefox and Safari or if they're just always blocked by lame javascript detectors)
thanks phillipashlock - did you find that link on a PC or can you do it on a Mac? Collectively, I feel like we're all undermining MTV when we watch their clips without their player/ads. It feels good.
As for the video - not that great, considering they're an amazing band (live and on record). Obviously shot on some kind of DV w/ lots of filters. Effects are pretty lo-fi; story is incoherent. These guys deserve a better video. Still - great song, and some nice autumn foliage.
If anybody still cares I found the quick time version. I edited it into the original post and got rid of the sucky MTV link.
By the way to let you all know this video was directed by Toronto's Chris Grismer with Spy films. To view more of Grismer's work check the Spy Entertainment website.
Surfing soul-less Sunday night television, only to stumble in on this video. Two seconds in and I am hooked. Right when they flap the bedsheet over their dead grandmother.
Good song. I wish them a long and creatively evolving career.
They remind me in a way of the best of Dexy's Midnight Runners and the Waterboys, with some Cure and Van Morrison thrown in. What's not to like about that.
Video was moving for me. Does that make me a sissy? No frckn way. Come over here and call me a sissy! Love the video, love the band. Will buy album tomorrow.
This video sucks
