Rapt Debt. video. Made by SSSR
exodus.interoutemediaservices.com
I like this video. Don't like streams.
SSSR also did:
Subtle "Fuck Kelly Osbourne" www.warprecords.com
Anyone knows more about SSSR?
That subtle video has an amazing little scene. One of those devil creatures vomits so heavily that he falls into his vomit, then grows into a tree.
Incredible.
i like the pseudo-vintage-miniature-old_animation_film of it. But couldn't get really into the story. I think it goes into the sort of "god speed you black emperor" category where you marvel at how the universe is beautiful or cruel.
this is really good visually, but as ai said, i didn't get captivated by the story. And, a little thought. Keeping in mind that I LOVED the video sssr did for subtle, I was thinking that the two videos look kind of the same, visually and stylistically speaking.. how much do you think it's important for us directors to come up always with new styles when doing promos? don't you think it's a plus point to not being able to be recognized immediately for a particular style/vision? personally i think it's something that gives director more value... gondry comes to my mind, i can't recall a video by him like another.. (well, i know I should stop bringing up gondry, he's kind of another league..)
I actually though these two videos were pretty different. I prefer the Milo one offhand, if felt more coherently moody and unique. The Subtle one was great too, but taking after Shynola a bit I think (can't balme em). Thanks for posting, I had not seen either.
Gondry's visual style isn't recongnizable because he does not really have one anymore. His stuff is conceptual, so superfluous visual would only distract. The average still from a Gondry video, without motion or narrative, has little effect. These two videos are made by people trying to flex their visual art skills (possibly for school) and thus most frames whould make great posters.
You guys are talking crazy. Gondry's work is so iconically recognizable as being his own. Very seldomly does it look any different than any other of his bright colored toy land promos.
He's VERY conscious of his style and so is his audience. This isn't robert altman we're talking about.
ALSO NOTE: Video "concept' and chosen "style" are two very very different things.
mmhh ok.. but i'm talking "visually" here. what i was saying is that for instance the video for "fell in love with a girl" looks completely different from bjork's bachelorette. or, don't know, kylie minogue from foo fighters... If you didn't know gondry did those videos you couldn't tell that's the same person behind the clips (obviously you immediately recognize his tricks and awkward storytelling).
Here I could have guessed that these two videos by sssr were done by the same studio, even without knowing at first who made them.
