Painting over the real-life scenes is an interesting visual effect, but I got the sense the filmmaker hadn't really figured out what to do with that effect; the end result was a video that felt a bit more like a technology demo than like a satisfying artistic whole.

so tell me what was it that made you feel the director didnt know what to do with the effect?

That's a fair question and I think I'd answer it with another question. Did the director of this video do anything with this effect that any other randomly chosen director wouldn't do?

To me, the answer is "no." And to me, that's a sign that this video is driven by the technology, rather than by the director's vision.

Obviously I'm being pretty subjective here, and I'm interested in knowing if this was more artistically satisfying to other folks than it was to me.
