Daft Punk "Robot Rock"
not a huge fan of performance videos but this is pretty dope (for the first minute or so). Check out the use of tube cameras and star filters.
The late-70s-bowie-led-zep environment is correctly rendered, but the snag is that it looks like a still life. Since Discovery, Daft Punk has definitely missed the point : music and video aren't a fucking taxidermist shit. Where is the once-successful accuracy of the Da Funk music and clip ?
I totally agree ... I still love the Daft Punk robot masks, but I guess I wish that they would do more with it. They have the physical potential to be the coolest band around, but this video was underwhelming ... I want to see what they do with their "real" music videos ... they won't be animated, I'm sure ...
I really thought based on the album title "Human After All" there would be a theme about them discarding the robot costumes. The album sucks, by the way- this and the title track are the only good songs.
This is the second video in so many days with a double necked guitar. I just wanted to point that out.
This track's not even that great...It would be ok if I was at a club and it hit for a couple minutes but it drags as a 5 minute album version. I do love that "Technologic" track though.
Daft Punk is on the outs.
The masks are awesome. Love the masks. Wish I had one.
I think that the retro robot style is executed very well and that it really works, stylistically, with the music. I think the music track is what lets the clip down, it starts off great, but it doesn't build into anything from there and hence it feels like it drags a bit (or a lot) when you watch it.
I don't really understand what silas_holmes meant by the taxidermist call, but I'm interested.
I think the daft are pretty washed up.
check it out
Poor and repetitive track. The base loop is a sample from an existing song (Breakwater - Release The Beast : coolout.racknine.net ). They didn't even change the loop by inserting some more effects. This is just a zero effort sampling.
The video is poor too...
