Amon Tobin - Proper Hoodidge
Yikes! Stick with it, trust me.
Sort of a Suburban-Kubrickian nightmare. Great editing!

Stunning.
Anyone know anything about Corine Stübi?
from what I heard this was a student film which got (after the fact) taken into the canon as a music video.
In this context, (although slick) it does have a very student film feel to it.
That was hypnotic. Very cool.
Nice stuff. Doesn't have any "student film" feel to it for me.
I think Captain Mark has very high expectations coz this is fucking excellent as a student film or any other standard - its also perfect with the music and a pretty stunning debut from the Swiss German artist.
Corine also did the video for Alter Ego's "Rocker" which slightly reprises this video with the repetitive image thing but in a more overtly sexy way.
By the way Corine is in the starring role here and is currently represented by Love in the UK for music video and commercials.
man, "student film" calls are just elitist bullshit in every country, any language. Peeps with the real skills always give it up to talent because they have nothing to prove. People who don't - like to diss, and generally work in the industry in some form or the other and feel threatened because they know they got little. I have seen many worse clips than this from the so-hot-right-now gangs.
you guys serious? You can't see through this? It's nearly every cliche in the experimental film book. "Ooooh, does this represent the collapse of the family structure?" "Is this 21st Century consumerism run amok?" Pretentious.
Like I said, it's slick, but it's not that great. And I'm underwhelmed by most of the videos I see here, so the "student film" label is just a reference point. I wouldn't give it any props if it were a "real" director.
Ok, captain. You're certainly entitled to your opinion, even if you seem to dislike the vast majority of music videos.
But... what do you like, anyway? Why do you come here? It can't be just to criticize everything, can it?
Please, do us a favor, I'm sure we'd all be curious to know:
"What are captainmarc22's top 5 all-time favorite videos?"
Captianmarc is funny.
zap! oooh! oooh!
I can't understand why you guys are so defensive of this video. It's just "okay" - in my original post I called it slick but student-filmy.
I come here because I like to see everything - you gotta wade through the bad and/or generic to see those great new videos.
here are the top (recent) videos I only saw because they were posted on this site:
Dizzee Rascal "Dream" Futureshock "Late at Night" Eurostar "Ye Ye" "Just 2 Guys" TV on the Radio "Staring at the Sun" Faultline "Biting Tongues" the Scopitones post
and I love shit like "Mazed and Amazed"
see, that wasn't so hard was it? i just wanted to make sure you actually had a soul.
...and you're right, those videos all rock.
All those videos were made with some money attached - Corie made this one for nothing.
That said Captain Marc's comments are largely true - most videos are shite.
actually the only one made w/ any $ is the Dizzee Rascal video - the rest were the low-low-budget debuts of most of their directors - and "Just 2 Guys" probably cost $10.00
Dizzee Rascal was about £65,000; Late At Night was around £35,000 & I don't know the others but fair play.
Based on that list, I think Captain Marc and I have very similar tastes.
I thought this particular video had a lot of cool images, but, yeah, they did have a slightly studenty feel to them. What I mean is that this felt like the work of somebody who has an superb eye for good images, but who hasn't quite learned how to tie them together into a satisfying whole. I would definitely look out for future works by this director, though. And the cinematography is very impressive, especially given that hassinator says it was made for nothing.
