VHS or Beta - Night on Fire
80's live mtv homage with awesome analog video degradation effect. www.waverlyfilms.com
Boy, do I love video degradation effects. But, this was just, okay for me I guess though...
The end part is really worth waiting for! Track's name is "Night on fire" by the way.
I bet we will see more of this effect in the near future. Excution is quite good and precise. The silhouette are roto or mokey?
the old trick of bouncing between 2 vhs decks. good reminder that you dont need the most expensive plug-ins to achieve interesting effects.
Me and one other guy did the effects. A few spots were keyable, but mostly it was roto.
I do like these effects and the ending was great. But if I wasn't tipped off on here that the ending was worth waiting for, A.D.D. might have kicked in and I would have written it off as a generic performance video.
I worked on some of the roto in this vid. I like the analog effect. J, the other guy who did the effects, told me he was doin some other crazy shit and they wouldnt let him keep it. bummer eh, cause its kinda blah.
It was very much based off the 80s video for the Stranglers, which looks almost the same but without the rotoed effects..
killthewaitress, did you work through J or through waverly?
this track and video is brilliant in my mind. the one thing I was hoping to get some feedback upon is: lately any performance based video is seemingly looked down upon, as being a cliche and boring solution - but in reality; bands and labels usually demand the bands performance to be featured in the video - so I don't think it should always be viewed as a creative weakness from any given director. Any thoughts? Anyway this video is hot
I worked through J. He is..or was, my professor at SVA.
Yeah, J is back at Weta.
Swish- Some excellent and varied performance clips have been showing up here lately. My Problem with the average performance video one might see on TV is that it has very little interest in performance, just persona and slickness. Clear Channel ordained nobodies who can barley perform and real bands who have worked their way up are presented the same way.
right on, najork. Bands need not be afraid of doing something different.
this video rules.
I think this is an excellent video. Very smart use of the effects!!
