On Death: Blanche "Someday..."
As much as I'm not a stereotypical Appalachian fella, I do enjoy the music that seeps out of these hills. "Someday..." is an A-B-A song. It begins with a soft, echoy intro, then shifts into some manic banjo/steel guitar stylings, then ends with this beautiful, haunting cadence.
The video, dir. Kevin Carrico in Nov 2004, is in the style of a silent film, and features a gathering of old people watching Blanche (a 5-person band) on stage in a church. There are 3 singers, the female singer is a bit Kate Pierson-looking, big wig, southern.
During B two guys sing twangily back and forth, manically.
At the end cadence, the woman taunts us slowly, "Some... day... You will find out..." This is when the video gets utterly f-ing brilliant. It fades between shots of each band member, the bizarre scene of that members' death, then to an old person's tear, etc..
City folk have way too much say in what gets inputted into videos.
