i hate being a cynic, but this video... roman coppola what are you doing!?! it's an Ok track from the phoenix boys, but this clip is a complete let down due to the fact it is so incredibly boring. Better luck next time please!
I dunno, I liked it.
I like this video, technically its really well done, a good use of "one shot no edits" and cool use of a crane and a moving stage. I like it alot. I'd take this over some busy, effects or animated video any day.
I guess it is boring, but side by side with most striaght performance shoots it has a nice quality, which is kinda of a coppolla thing, his best videos are not trying to be clever, because he is not a gondry or a jonze (speigle) he just has a pretty good eye for a nice shoot and thats good too.
Okay, I don't think anyone can argue that this is a gorgeous performance video. The lighting, the cinematography, the look of the footage, everything is impeccable. This is probably my favourite straight performance video and the best I've ever seen.
HOWEVER, this does not change the fact that this is just a performance video. The band has no stage presence at all, there isn't even any interesting costume or set accents. By the look of this video, it probably cost a hell of a lot of money. It's a shame that the same money wasn't put towards making something faintly interesting. The song has so many possibilties, in the lyrics and especially the tone, and yet all we get is the ultimate in glossy performance video that has all the right elements but is unavoidably devoid of any soul. This is the reason that music videos aren't thought of as art outside of the creative set; too often they value style over substance.
very true.
this is the most boring performance video i've seen in a long time. and we were hopeing so much from R. Coppola. what a let down. It's back to film school for you my boy... study hard and don't get intoxicated by the spinning lights.
Stripedcollar, you summed that up so perfectly. Constructively, elegantly. I wish there were more people like you that posted in this community.
