Laurent Briet's new site looks like a blog.
seems to me his site redesign is more than a little antville-inspired...
the bookends are terrible and make no sense.
Jem is hot. Video isn't bad for what it sets out to do; but that's not much.
I'm reminded of other space capsule videos... Matthew Sweet's "Girlfriend" and Gondry's Lenny Kravitz "Believe."
It's a weird site - I'd guess he's just lazy but his old site had a pretty cool design.

I don't have anything intelligent to add about the video, but I wanted to say that I recognize the song Jem is sampling as a track from the Swingle Singer's "Jazz Sebastian Bach." Does knowing that make me more cool or less cool?

yeah, what a lazy bastard. digitizing all his clips and posting them online for all of us to watch like that, the nerve. then posting shake macros that he personally wrote for anyone to use free, what a good for nothing piece of shit. get up off your frito encrusted couch laurent and do something with your life. i'm sick of paying taxes to support your sorry lazy welfare ass.

not lazy in content, but lazy in design. Seriously, it's the "sign-up-for-a-blog" aesthetic.
posting the shake filters is cool; but I'd argue he (or any director) doesn't post videos for the fans but for themselves - to build their name, get more work, get positive feedback. It's a win-win because we get to see the work (often as director's cuts or high quality quicktimes) but I'm not sure his primary goal is to entertain us.
I think the bookends are just commenting on the perverted nature of teeagers in an attempt to justify getting Jem naked.

true, but it's the decision to change it to a weblog from what it used to be that's interesting. and i think the "success" of places like this had something to do with that decision. (also: slashdot and boingboing aren't what i'd take as examples of your typical blog, the former with its arcane modding system feels more like a forum, and the latter doesn't have comments at all...)
