progosk, October 5, 2005 at 7:51:29 PM CEST

Marty Callner did much, much "worse" than this.

For being a normal video, I thought it was well executed, the song not terrible, though I won't be putting it on my iTunes..

I'm glad things like this are posted so we can discuss music videos in all their stripes.

...I can't find any clunker Marty Callner vids online, the best I can do (quickly) is some Aerosmith vids. Alicia Silverstone there, since we're talking about chicks.

All I can say is I've seen Y Kant Tori Read's "The Big Picture," and "All About Us" pales in comparison.

That top screenshot is really misleading.

jdub, October 6, 2005 at 12:14:32 AM CEST

Sorry Kevathen...I deleted the post.

Basically I just said I think this video represents the worst of everything that can be bad in a video/song/group. And you know, it really is. Cringe.

Marty Callner...well, the thing is...Marty's from a another era in music videos. And this video's brand new. Man...Marty did 98 videos? Dude worked a lot.

kevathens, October 6, 2005 at 12:54:38 AM CEST

Hey Jdub-- I definitely see your point. At the same time, doesn't the short yet wide history of music videos have anything to add to our understanding of any video posted here? (I'm quite interested in the history of mv.)

It's hard cuz those vids aren't on the 'net, so it's hard to get a complete picture of music video as an artform / commerceform unless you've been watching since early MTV. Pitchfork's Stephen M. Deusner just intimated something similar.

jdub, October 6, 2005 at 6:07:06 AM CEST

Hmmm...yeah, well...I don't remember that many videos from the early years either save a few such as Thriller or other Michael Jackson videos...but I think that's probably for the best. The rest were mostly hair, cheese, and dutch angles.

Maybe someday somebody will put on an online catalog of every video ever made. In H.264 quicktime in HD quality. And maybe it will be easy to watch. But I'm not losing any sleep over it.

progosk, October 6, 2005 at 5:48:16 PM CEST

nu-uh mud: it's just this one (plus others i guess) are apparently only for the us. aol sniffs your ip. when this first went up it loaded fine from o'er here, the blocking was added after.

not nice, aol.

The director of this did the movie Wonderland with Val Kilmer FYI. He is trying to do videos now. I saw an early rough cut of this, it was 90% narrative and a 100 times better. No great but good. Visually rich and interesting. This seems to have been recut by the record label to saturate it with performance. They ruined it in the process.

Speaking of Aerosmith and old vs. new

discobear, October 7, 2005 at 8:25:00 AM CEST

the car is shot beautifully in the parking lot, tunnel, etc...

not a fan of the song, performance or narrative of the video. am i being too harsh? how can you cut from a gunshot homicide to an under the skirt shot as she leaves? no no...

robodrug, October 7, 2005 at 4:10:43 PM CEST

AOL got on that sharp’ish fe sure

I don't know if they woz both done by James Cox? but seems to me the Russian language version ain’t that dissimilar to Laurent Boutonnat / Myline Farmer collaborations Though Progosk, u might have a point in dissin’ the English language one. As it seems to be a poor musical pastiche of Baise Moi / Thelma & Louise etc etc

Pity Grammy.ru redesigned its site n deleted all its video downloads they used to have a good collection of Myline’s vids ‘though they now have some TV icon that needs a password, shame too that they effed the English language menu into the virtual stratosphere iz well, coz I can’t read Russian

Anyways

www.tatu-online.tk

I ain’t gonna hotlink dem as they are 68mb AVI downloads, Its the best I can find doin’ a web trawl

fellfromthesky, October 8, 2005 at 3:24:48 PM CEST

robotdrug, when you say you ain't "dissin’ the English language one" i gather that is because when you speak, you are actuaully dissin' the english language, and not the actual video? no?

robodrug, October 8, 2005 at 6:24:29 PM CEST

Are u dyslexic or summit fellfrom? Coz your sentence clearly implies my comment is in the first person regarding the video. Read the passage again! I ain't said nuffin like so, Its a response to Progosk's

So wen u 'ave a crack at my usage of language Upfront it correctly, 'stead of limp lettuce sarcasm, based on sloppy proofreading!

fellfromthesky, October 8, 2005 at 9:54:28 PM CEST

Yes, i clearly recognize the attempted intended meaning of your previous statement. However you speak like a huffin' 11 year old from manchester with a fresh can of paint. Just be careful not to get it all over your mouth again this time.

robodrug, October 9, 2005 at 1:56:46 AM CEST

Yes grandad, wan' me to take mi tracks outta mi socks iz well?

redkillmachine, October 19, 2005 at 7:22:46 PM CEST

Well, I've always liked Tatu, not because of the hype...just because I actually enjoy their voices. Even if this song is simplistic (it sounds like a children's lullaby at times), I enjoyed it. The video wasn't an eye-sore. It had enough going on in it to keep you entertained and like I said, I enjoy their singing. I'd give it a C+.

I am in love again... but really, yeah, this is almost as good as wet school-girl uniforms against chain-link fences. Oh TATU.
