Hello Everyone,
I just finished this yesterday and would appreciate any and all criticism. The entire thing was shot on HD and I would like feedback to what everyone thinks of our treatment of the footage :)

well done! i am very hard to please when it comes to this kind of music, but the video makes the above average song that much better. the start of the video kinda reminded me of the film "dogville" by lars von trier, the bunny reminded me of donny darko, sexy beast, and the animal collective's "who could win a rabbit" video, but the fact that he took the head off at the end justified it. the smoke rewinding and fast forwarding was really cool, and the handheld shots were amzing and added to the mise en scene a lot. i think towards the end there was a little too much bunny footage, and if you're still editing that might be the only area i suggest mixing it up a little more. the hd really helped this production. if you don't mind me asking, what was the budget? the weird and good thing about this video is you got old west store fronts, candy, girls, smoke, and bunnies to all flow together, whereas by the hand of other directors, the overall idea might not be so polished and might feel sporatic or vague. again, good job!
Nice one, the creepy-sharpness of HD is still something surpising for me ... and about the organic thing - is it really smoke? Did you shot this in high-speed? It fits very well and really adds to the atmosphere...
The song is a typical "I only know 30 words"-rap, but all in all it's a good mixture!
awesome. i love it. a little bit sin city, but really nicely done. definitely curious to know the budget, too.
Hi Guys,
Thanks for all your feedback :)
The smoke is actually ink spreading on the surface of water that has been comped and tracked into mostly green screen shots.
We shot about half the clip at 50fps and the other at 25...
Out of respect for the record label I shouldnt divulge the budget publicly, but I can send you an email and tell you....
It would be less than a tenth of the average US music clip :)

as rap vids go, it's nice to see something so interesting (and: smokin' indeed...)
Nice job Sam. Looks sweet as!
Great work. Beautiful integration of the ink/smoke effect into the images. Really seamless. Very atmospheric.
Its pretty cool with the audio turned off. I was watching it on a computer with no sound card.
I second Levi.
On the constructive criticism side, I would have liked the head rip-offs at the end to be more revelatory. It felt like it lost a little edge towards the end. Still, I liked the camera tracking, colors, effects, you delivered some really great, well-done intensity there that went well with the track. Kudos!
Thanks Kev, Daniel et all :)
A couple of edits before the final record label approved one I had a more logical sequence of rabbit action that mede the head reveals more satifying, but had to remove it as the record company didnt like some of the more risque shots.
The clip was comped by a man who I consider to be one of New Zealand's compositors, Mr Paul Freeman. He used Inferno running on one of the last ever Onyx's made. Check out more of his amazing work at
In fact he is so good I am gonna put this on the clips listing.....
