Mount Sims - Ashes (director: Tobias Knipf, 2005)
Mount Sims "Ashes"
dark video with great danceperformance, directed by Tobias Knipf.
High Quality QT www.wildlight.de
it looks and sounds dark. I like that. they could have done a little more with it maybe, but its good
It's tough: on the one hand, the imagery is quite beautiful, on the other, it's kind of a yawner. Doesn't really go anywhere, which funny enough, works fine sometimes (check out The Embassy "Stage Persona" post), but doesn't work as well here. Feels more like an installation piece, which means the audience winds up going somewhere: to the gallery to see the video...
great dress, nice atmo, but: yeah, goes nowhere...
Great backdrop for a live performance
I'm just wondering ... the clip has no narration, no plot as usually used in videoclips. Therefore it's "not going anywhere" - d'accord. But there is a tension and for the known reason it must come from something else, than the (missing) plot. The whole clip seems to concentrate on photography (should it be called: cinematography?), which creates the atmosphere. An atmosphere - it seems to me - that is only working, because it is drifting and not going to a special point. O.k. this clip is not MTVish, it's more like transforming the sound into pictures - wonderful pictures. (In one last sentence: Great photo-/cinematography! ... would like to work with this guy ...)
