adidas: AdiColor: BLACK by SAIMAN CHOW
The 7th and final film of the adicolor podcast. A cartoon-noir. Appropriately dark to mark the end by Saiman Chow, acclaimed designer and psychedelic storyteller.
That ones my favorite!
mad talent saiman. noir - ha! loved it (as i did his previous foray into similar - albeit garishly coloured - territory).
Beautiful images and all but...what the crap was that?
Once again I dont understand why Adidas even associates their name with this besides the fact that they paid off this artist. Is all that they asked is for each director to 'make a short film about a color'? Despite the fact that they have nothing to do with the product (what else is new) and half the time are not even a fresh idea for the artist...
Sorry....I'm just feeling like a little rant on commercialism on art...as well, I did love the images, but somehow they they failed to go beyond anything but meaningless/ridiculous (but superbly shot)images for me.
Glayvin, don't sweat it man. Its a trend all companies are doing to get hip. They spend money on the coolest artists to get street cred. No big deal. They have plenty of cash and this is a drop in the bucket of slave labor. Im glad Saimon made this. I love it and I didn't think once about addidas until you brought it up. But for some reason I want to buy a new pair of velcro mid tops that are black and white and have 3 stripes on each side.
Animation - insanely inventive, black but engrossing.
'Commercial' - well, it certainly has no product association and if it did I don't think I'd want to own (& therefore be associated with) it
the best yet.. i don't see any of these as commercials, they are more like Adidas sponsored shorts. infact, thats what they are....
The concept for the adicolour line is that you can customize the shoes. Clearly the concept for the ads was to have directors be free to make the films however they pleased. It seems like these pieces act as endorsements for the colour choices you have when decorating your adicolours and not for the shoes themselves. Which makes sense seeing as how they're just generic white sneakers adidas is rehashing. -j
