Madonna "Get together" (dir: Logan / Rockstar)

I know I just went on a rant earlier about how we need to support our fellow video makers, but I'm really not feeling this video. Actually, the video itself is pretty amazing, especially the bit where her backup dancers have lazers being shot at them, but I'm just sorta getting tired of awesome animation.
Is that wrong to say? I think I've just been to too many RES screening where it's just animated video after animated video. So many of these are cleverly crafted bits of eye candy, but there's no substance behind it.
Well, I think that the animation is pretty fresh in this. It certainly avoids most of the motion graphics cliches (apart from maybe at the end) and it is about a million times better than her last 2 videos. I actually wish there were more mainstream videos that were as visually exciting as this.
Logan have done some great work..specifically for apple..but this is most def not fresh. The entire look and feel screams mk12 - agenda suicide vid. Its like watching a giant moving piece of wrapping paper with a Madonna pattern .
Actually, now you mention it, this is pretty similar aesthetically to the latest ipod adverts. I didn't realise it was done by the same people.
This will go really well in the clubs. I'm looking forward to seeing this on the TV; I wonder if we're missing some of that visceral pull here. Though why did they animate Madonna? She's a master of the performance. She doesn't require the Rocket Ride.
Contrast this with Shynolas Queens video which has a similar colour palette, Tempo and style but oh so much more subtext and interest. I keep wanting to like Logan’s work but they just seem to be fat happy corporate whores nuzzling at the teat of big brands.
And I completely agree with winchandpulley, whilst I like the idea of RES and love seeing new and hard to see work sometimes it just seems like a love in for the trendy set who will applaud a polished, and professional but mainstream and digestible clip over something rougher but a little more challenging. Nothing worse than listening to someone with expensive sneakers and hair say “awesome animation” with glazed eyes when you know they have no point of difference on the matter.
from feed.stashmedia.tv "Apparently the madonna footage was reused from a concert performance at the KoKo club (or that's what madonnalicious.com mentions). It's a shame logan had to deal with that static material, being forced into these mediocre medium shots. Everything else is beautiful I think."
Those circumstances suggest a lack of time and/or money. An impressive effort with such a static source. Still, does not quite work for me; the pervasive outline filter, the imprecise timing of the animation.

YAWNNNN....man, that was a complete waste of time and space. so 2002, i literally skipped through the whole thing and it took me 5 longest seconds to go to the end.
This is definetly better on TV, where it's a welcome relief from the usual videos, rather than just another 'awesome animation' on antville.
so so so so DATED... accomplished in terms of execution but it smacks of the aesthetic 1990's clubbing culture. madonna has become trite. it's really sad.
My friends it would appear we are over thinking this.
It is not very good. Enough said. Everyone is capable of it. Logan have done some great work. This excluded.
haters!
I agree, to me looks very outdated, I really dislike the whole aesthetic, and it bores me. low budget work is often some of the most innovative but big budgets looking like they were done on a home computer in a couple of weeks is just crap.
stupid song, boring video -PUPS!
I'm sick of this style too. I'm also sick of Madonna acting like she's perpetually 24. Yeah she looks GREAT for her ago, but geez...

The Madonna vid, yep, looked better on TV. For what they were given, I'd say Logan did a good job. Hope she does a video for "Jump."
