I can't believe how many people are upset that a poll was taken to survey antville's opinion of a director's body of work. Where else could you do this? I like Marc Webb and thought he was underrated; I was curious to see other people's opinions. At any rate; you can think it's all pointless, but I can't believe people think a general critique is mean-spirted.

Jiminy Christmas! I will take back what I said about Webb destroying the American music video. It was dumb, I feel like petty child. Sorry Marc, sorry antville. I'll turn over a new leaf and celebrate the low budget music video. I will write treatments with fist pumping extras and be happy about it - just as long as we let this one die.

         

I think the problem here is that the poll is intended to be a critique of an entire body of work. Most video directors are young and still developing their artistic voice, and alot of them are directing for reasons that aren't completely artistic. It's illogical to think that we can look at a guy like Marc Webb and critique his body of work the same way we would critique some French New Wave director's work. If you want to judge this guy (or really, almost any music video director's) work, then I think its better on a video by video basis.

         

Time to move on. I hear the sirens of the parody police.
