MUSIC LOVERS- I give you: TINNITUS!
hello music and movie fans (like me).
Tinnitus (ringing in the ears mostly caused by insane levels of loud music), from concerts, clubs and Ipods (which I own and love), IS causing a nightmare among young people, RIGHT NOW.
THIS IS NO LONGER YOUR GRANDMA'S ILLNESS. kids 10 (!) to 25 are getting this like the plague and it is so preventable.
I too got it from a rock show where there was no decibel control, it was loud and distorted, its my fault, but people have to know. 146 people got it from the same show that I attended.
THIS PSA WAS PRODUCED BY ME TO SHOW ON MTV, AND IT SHOWCASES YOUNG PEOPLE WITH TINNITUS LETTING YOU KNOW HOW THEY FEEL AND LETTING YOU H E A R WHAT THEY HEAR.
PLEASE, DON'T LAUGH IT UP, AT 50 MILLION PEOPLE IN THE US ALONE AND MILLIONS MORE OUTSIDE THE US, THIS IS AS SERIOUS AS CANCER!.
TINNITUS- IT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU AT ANY TIME, AT ANY PLACE, AT ANY AGE.
MOST OF TODAY'S TOP POP, ROCK AND HIP HOP STARS HAVE THIS, BUT WON'T TELL YOU....
SO HERE IT A LINK TO THE ALREADY SUCCESSFUL PSA (16,000 DOWNLOEADS!)
SPREAD THE WORD PLEASE:
Hi Jose. I'm sorry to hear about your tinnitus and good for you that you're doing something to inform people.
But 'serious as cancer' could be construed as a tad insensitive, especially to those who have lost someone to the disease. I'm just guessing here, but I suspect someone with an inoperable brain tumour for instance, would happily swap for the tinnitus.
As noble as this cause may be, this isn't the place.
yes, I do consider it as bad as a cancer. and Yes THIS is a place for it, it has become an epidemic and it is time to treat this seriously.
My dear cousin Carolina committed suicide, she was lovely, she was a kick ass bass player, she had a "niagara falls" type of Tinnitus that she simply could not resist. No xanax or anti depression medication could help her. She was 19.
the girl showcased at the beginning of the clip, Cindy, tried to commit suicide 11 months before this thing was shot.
I have actually seen a 10 year old with tinnitus, and have seen him in tears.
It doesn't go away, its there.
So, if you don't like the "like cancer" comment, I am sorry, perhaps it is a bit exaggerated. But at over 50 million here in the US, over 300 million outside and no cure in site, and most importantly, no respect in site....what can one do.
Be a good samaritan and spread the word.
er, if this-- a place whose main purpose is to showcase videos accompanied by music-- isn't the place, then where is? Maybe it's not a music video itself, but that's altogether stubborn to ignore it or to say "this isn't the place" just because it's a PSA. It's like a footnote amidst the actual music videos. 'Watch/enjoy the videos as you will, but be aware of this...' I think it's important that tinnitus is being brought up. I'd heard of it from a few teachers in high school. Damn, did I wish I had some ear plugs at that Zoso show. Fucking theremin. And I get the sentiment of saying tinnitus is "as serious as cancer", but that phrase goes a little too far. As the producer of a PSA that's (soon-to-be?) showing on MTV, I hope you'll consider revising that statement in later use. (Perhaps something about the number of people that who tinnitus as compared to the number of people who have cancer-- which, I'm pretty sure, is what you meant.)
The lesson here? Good work can become better with a good editor.
How about this.....forget the "cancer" statement. Just please, spread the word, waste energy on that.
Peace brothers, just tell others.......
Okay, point taken. But if you want people to take you seriously, don't WRITE IN ALL CAPS, especially when talking about tinnitus. Sheesh, the snark writes itself.
i recentley realized i have i tinnitus. could't be more timely for me. it sucks. thanks for the post
I think this is as appropriate place as any to post this information. It is important and yet folks are so reluctant to discuss it.
I have a mild case of noise-induced tinnitus and I would hate to see it get any worse. People need to be aware of the danger.
Yeah i have a mild case of it as well from going to so many shows, from now on i will be wearing ear plugs because i value my hearing.
