Robbie Williams "rudebox" (Dir. Seb Janiak)
Robbie goes dancefloor - I like it - windows yes, you tube (windows worked in my browser only by pasting the adress in the url-opener of the player)
He feels very white, which makes this vid very fun, perhaps not in the way Robbie's going for.
It's time to bring sexy back.
Horrid song and a poor video, the song isnt even orignal its sampled off a rap song from the 80
s (which sounds way better) with the same melody on the lyrics
(can't wait to hear robodrug on robby's lingo attempt here...)
know what tho? i like it. rw's always so effortlessly clever, having fun but staying just slightly above it all. am i wrong?
k: white? tha's the whole point no? it's lilly 's crowd he's going after, i'd say
Should be easier to play and download from here:
P: To his credit, this is the lowest 'above it all' he's been, in my opinion. This feels, unfortunately, like the bad Europop version of Bootylicious remix (a sub-par Little X vid). He also looks bored, he's not playing it up. I don't mean to slag it, I do enjoy it, albeit subversively.
dir. Mike Maguire of The Directors Bureau (formely of Kuntz & Maguire), no less
As for 'white' perhaps I mean 'very British'
hehe I'm totally going overboard, but I would have loved this if that were Weird Al instead of Robbie.
I remember RW saying he was once asked to review new singles for the N.M.E. and he ended up storming out because he literally didn't have an opinion. He's creatively & artistically clueless and without Guy Chambers to write his tunes, he's lost.
Stopped watching this drivel at 'TK Maxx costs less!'
i think RW want to make forget his latest album as soon as possible cause it was a flop in succes & music - his upcoming record ("rudebox" or "1974") is a collabaoration-festival (pet shop boys, manu chao etc) - which gives right to wasco: he tries to fill the whole left by a guy called Guy -
- which finally doesn't change the fact that i like this track ( otherwise I wouldn't have posted it ...) -
This is MIKE MAGUIRE, posting.
I DID NOT DIRECT THIS VIDEO. I DID NOT DIRECT THIS VIDEO. I DID NOT DIRECT THIS VIDEO. I DID NOT DIRECT THIS VIDEO. I DID NOT DIRECT THIS VIDEO.
I DID direct another video for this same song, but it was shelved by the label (for reasons I won't go into here.)
PLEASE REMOVE MY NAME FROM THIS VERSION OF THE VIDEO.
THANK YOU.
-Mike
Sorry about that. I was wondering; this didn't feel anywhere near your style. Do you (or does anybody) know who did this?
It was Mike Maguire, wasn't it?
Just a joke.
seb janiak
i hope he flushed and washed his hands after laying this turd. Robbie Williams gets much of his creditbility (ahem!) from making top notch videos, but this misfires as much as the song. Imagine Dougal Wilson getting his hands on a Williams' track, coz after this tripe, thats the kind of direction he needs...
I'm always keen to watch a Robbie video - as this video demonstrates, you never know what you're gonna get. I just watched his 'A Place To Crash' video and it couldn't be more different from this one. Perhaps that's the trouble. He flirts with so many different genres it's hard to take him seriously on something as off-the-wall for him as Rudebox. Still, nice to see a pop star taking some chances and having fun with it. It somehow reminded me of George Michael - trying to hard with 'the kids' perhaps?
