Take the MTV VMA Poll
Video Static gets its poll on with a pick your MTV VMA winners poll. The 2006 VMAs are, like, tomorrow, and I expect everyone here will be watching! ;) A test will be issued following the show. No. 2 pencils only, please.
Meanwhile, Kelefah Sanneh argues that the show is increasingly irrelevant. I agree.
what's the point of taking a poll when you can't see the results??? what, are they afraid of ballot stuffing?
here, vote right here:
man i remember the last mtv awards i liked was 1997 when prodigy won all awards for "fat of the land ". that show used to be the koolest ever , i would watch tv after 24:00 only for two reasons :
- vma or ema
- nba playoffs
since brittny spears started appearing on the show and then followed all the garbage of boybands , it all went glamorous like that holywood crap and they are not even as appealing as they claim to be : what is brittny spears compared to heidi klum ? brittny is crap ..
they used to make a "behind the seens " afterwards showing artists just fooling around . i remember once they showed steve taylor and slash making music together in their rooms. there is no comparison between "then" and "now" the fact is that all todays pop stars are simply not kool at all and they are all fake so when it comes down to shows like vma you can see how pathetic they are .
"Kanye West says best video didn’t get VMA nod" He calls his ‘Touch the Sky’ video ‘one of the most memorable’ of the year

One of the best videos for the year wasn't even nominated, according to Kanye West, the maker of said video. West, who is nominated for best pop video at Thursday's MTV Video Music Awards for "Gold Digger," says his Evil Knievel-spoof video "Touch the Sky" was better than that.
NEW YORK - One of the best videos wasn’t even nominated, according to Kanye West, the maker of said video.
West, who’s nominated for best pop video at Thursday’s MTV Video Music Awards for “Gold Digger,” says his elaborate Evel Knievel spoof “Touch the Sky” — featuring Pamela Anderson — was better than that.
“It didn’t get any nominations, but it’s one of the most memorable videos of the year for me,” he said Tuesday night, speaking backstage before performing at an exclusive concert for American Express cardholders. West said he doesn’t see his videos as a way to boost his sales — and noted that even though “Touch the Sky” was his favorite video, the song was not a huge hit.
“I’m not trying to be No. 1; I’m trying to make something that lasts forever, something that’s really memorable,” he said.
“Gold Digger” is also nominated for best male video and best hip-hop video.

Video Static aborted it anyway

well of the 5 i think madonna's is the best but i bet that dani california will win. i wonder if tony kaye will show up...
it's weird, at some point they renamed the show from the music video awards to the video music awards - but all the videos nominated are mainly based on the song. i mean, "hips don't lie" is a hit song with a merely adequate video.
kanye's right; gold digger is a better song but touch the sky is so much more of a video...

As a show, the VMAs were more scattershot than last year. OK Go and Beyonce killed it, as did (jesus) Al Gore. Hype Williams was great, as were the Raconteurs drilling a quick "Video/the Internet Killed the Radio/Video Star". The amount of integrated advertising was astonishing, as was also the amount of sheer randomness/craziness, which is also evident in the list of winners. The event has - finally - devolved into the Europe Music Awards.
