I think I've just found someone who has seen phantom of the paradise way more than me. The kitschy style of the video fits them nicely. A strange but fun object kinda like the song.

I didn't get much sense of kitsch or irony here. I do think that, when using techniques/effects from a movement or period, if you're not going to send them up them you've got to make better use of them than you'd expect fom a contemporaneous video. This video just seems a bit tame.
