Thursday "At This Velocity" Director: Travis Kopach
I'm not a big fan of his videos. This video, like any of his others, have decent production value (considering low budget indie work), but horrrrrible editing. It's a shame
Same as the Panic! At The Disco videos, I feel like they just loaded a set with some props and nice lighting, and then proceeded to have the band play through the song 100 times while throwing the camera around. Were their any storyboards involved in this?
There are some nice performance sections, and I'm sure Thursday fans will like this, but it just feels really thin. And unfortunately, once you've seen the first 10-20 seconds of the song, you've seen pretty much the whole video.
yeah this video doesn't do it for me. it doesnt feel like there is much previsualization. almost looks like the entire video is shot with one lens and the camera operator just running around shooting random performance shots. nice production design for what was likely really low budget, but overall i think there were a lot of missed opportunities lost in the sloppiness of the way it was shot.
the edit police have been informed of this crime.
I feel like this guy's at least trying to change up the usual emo video, which is noble. At least there aren't any despondent girls traversing their bedrooms in slow motion, dilapidated warehouses, or the usual generic self-congratulatory crap. But I still feel undewhelmed, especially after the super-dramatic Bright Eyes-inspired intro.
your right, he is trying new things. but not all of them are working.
Didn't like the music.
that is one funny video.
hehe. first car crashes. now planes? and next is space shuttles?
I cant quite work out whats wrong with this video. It looks nice, there's some interesting moments but it just feels so lifeless.
PROGOSK it aint a repost mate, that one was for the trailer to the video, this IS the video.
I didn`t like it at all no story to it apart from Geoff talking at the start and then a single set with him flaling about.
Like i said earlier, the editing is just really bad. The camera work is very uninspired as well. You can't cover up bad filmmaking with pretty sets and nice lighting. I see a pattern forming with his work.
secretd5 you wouldn't happen to be a fat wanta be producer/director that wears dirty brown shoes and is way over the hill would you?
quite the opposite of everything you wrote actually. My opinion is of the case that "mtv style" work (sloppy fast cuts, messy camera moves, A.D.D. filmmaking) is just boring and bad. I know that mtv didn't start that technique as many films have done so in the past, but this type of style has been brought to the attention of the mainstream because of MTV. Don't get me wrong. Fast cutting and erratic camera movement doesn't = bad. It's just that so many people do it without it being effective. Once again this is just an opinion... take it for what it's worth. 2 cents.
I'm going to have to agree with secretd5. Even though there wasn't much going on in this video, it could have been made more dramatic and less boring had it been shot and cut with more care. It's alost as if the lighting and set constituted 90% of the effort put into the video and the actual performance and filmmaking was an afterthought.
