Gwen Stefani - "Wind It Up" Dir: Sophie Muller
Here is the first video off Gwen Stefani's new record. The yodel-riffic track doesn't do anything for me, but it will probably become ingrained into my skull after many airings. It doesn't seem like Gwen was gone very long between albums, I wonder if she is risking over-exposure?
This definitely feels like it is from the same branch of the video tree as "Fergalicious" - but Sophie did a much better job, IMO. Some of the choreographed robo dancing on stepped platforms reminds me a bit of an all time fave "Round the World" by Daft Punk and directed by He Who is Perpetually Named.
I could only find the clip on YouTube. It is not up on the Oil Factory site yet.
Yodel at a playa!
this reminds you of the. best. video. evver. because it's got stairs? i do hope bianca doesn't read antville...
Yeah, I don't really find this that interesting. She's said this album was basically a continuation of the last. It's got a sense of humor, but ultimately it'll just be a Gwen-Stefani's-doing-it-so-we-should-buy-along kind of deal. (when is it not.) I like Gwen, but this is really annoying & rehashed. I think if it came out before Fergie's scheizer, people would probably be more receptive to it. But since everyone hates Fergie-the-image, that might spill on over to Gwen. Good luck with that... but then those damn strings & shit. I bet the CD quality version (or generally, uh... not u2b quality) of the song will do a lot more for this song. Also: there's a version on her website that's slightly better than YouTube's.
That's such a horrid song. I woulda given it to Fat Cats.
not really digging it. i think it missed the mark on capturing Gwen's playfulness that we saw in HOLLABACK. sure it's quirky and different, but overall a little too forced. it could also be the track is clouding my judgement...not a fan. since fergie totally bit off gwen's entire vocal style and image, she has to reinvent herself and this just wasn't the best way to do it.
gwen yodelmov - Still haven't seen this on TV, but it looks like Sophie holds the vid together pretty well. Amazing how that works. The green hill reminds me of The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)..
A lot of this vid is classic Sophie, really. I may love it once I see it on TV.
Thought dis woz dire on first viewing, but i've changed my mind n' its only the second time I've seen it It's bostin'
Gwen pulls it off Fergie dain't! theres no doubt bout it, once u get over the shock
Where the Gwen key is refashioned on the wall paper Its meant to look like a skull n crossbones right? N' I take mi hat off to Sophie I'm buyin' dis wen it comes out
yodelling? i'll give you yodelling - with a real female in it!
Very droll prog Now find me the 'Heineken don't do clubs. but if they did' ad .........Not that its got anything to do with this post.... You'll see!
Another case of TV vs. small Quicktime file. There are some really nice elements to the video, but ultimately the sped-up footage and quick editing don't coalesce with the song. [No, it doesn't fly it off its rocker, as I previously said.]
Again Sophie isn't in her own Making the Video, and Gwen seemed ultra-professional again, cheers to that!
