Nelly Furtado - "Say It Right" Directed by Rankin & Chris
"Say It Right" More Chilled R&B from Nelly Furtado, and Tim "Timbaland" Mosley from Nelly's album "Loose"
The song was co-produced n co-written by Timbaland and Nate "Danja" Hills. It’s the third U S single release from the the album
The video was filmed in Los Angeles. Directed by Rankin & Chris and shot back-to-back with the video for "All Good Things (Come to an End)" the third Euro single,
Look at dat light man! Its so clean But den I guess it is Los Angeles! Still! nice work R&C Nelly's voice works well on this trax I know summa u lot give her a rite slagging over her last two cuts Made no difference to me I still went out n bought the album Nelly's cool!
To boring' codec issues I couldn't un-embed the mov code from the java for a direct link
The vid don't actually show in the embedded playa on my machine I don't sweat I jus' extract it outta mi temporary internet cache n play it in vlc
Still maybe one ov u codec boffins can direct link it (assuming u like it ov course)
here's da goods: umusicmedia.ca
what's mad is: he does next to nothing, yet totally upstages her. here's why: her glam squad deserves to be fired! multiple bad hair & clothes, she looks uncomfortable throughout. what gives?!
Is that Rankin the photographer????
it is rankin 'the photographer' and he is at hsi
Cheers for the direct link Prog
But suddenly I'm not so enamoured wit the artistic merits ov the vid......
Dat rankin still owes me the spondoolies for sum dope i had published in his dumb arsed rag "Dazed n Confused".......
Not bad.
Absolute shite...an apalling video only marginally better than his feature 'Lives of Saints'
Unimaginative toss. The thought process is genius... helicopter, roof tops, dancers, rain... shit, I've never seen that before...
This kind of lowest common denominator hiphop/r'n'b video got shat on ages ago by directors like hype and chris Robinson who took basic and made it special. this is basic.
I hope it was the labels idea to plaster Nelly's name on everything- sticks out like a sore thumb and looks total pap fellas.
Timbaland specialises in doing this kind of goofy 'hey' 'ho' performance in videos at the moment, why not do something with him that involves more than raising an eyebrow.
I look forward to the next video, with any luck it'll be marginally better.
This is one of the worst promo pop vids I've seen this year. The editing makes no sense. The close-ups are annoying, the dancing is random, and the presence of Timbaland in it is just plain awkward. It's basically just her posing in various locations with different outfits/hairdo etc. This formula does work most of the time, but not in this one. Why can't her label get any better commercial directors like Benny Boom, Erik White or even Chris Applebaum?
This is a fucking tragedy. Such a good song wasted.
Wow guys, get a fuckin grip. Who knew mediocre would lend itself to such spouts of frustration - and am I wrong to say it feels all UK based...?
What's with the anonymity? It runs like wet jealousy.
Hmm. This video was sent out for treatments at least three times. The first time I heard directors were writing on it was way back in June/July. This seems like a classic case of the label wanting something "fun and sexy" to help the artist sell while the song is stripped down and lonely. Clearly, Universal, wants to sell Miss Furtado on her Penelope Cruz looks and dance beats - which they have not really been able to do so far on this record. It seems like the audience prefers the quirky Nelly from before. All the "lighten it up" elements like Tim's goofy vamping and the C+C Music Factory silhouetted dancers play completely against the tone of the music. Even shooting in daylight at all strikes me as odd - since the whole song sounds like 4 in the morning to me. Two other details that stood out 1) THAT bridge again (3rd street?) and 2) The wacky font with Nelly's name on the side of the chopper andt he top of the bldg made me think Austin Powers was gonna come out and make jokes. The label wanted to sell one thing, but the song was something else and that rarely comes out well.
30f, I totally agree with you. I had been looking forward to seeing a dark, eerie, cinematic video for this single. The image direction for this album is way off and could be so much more worthwhile if they opted for the tried-and-true method of recruiting some decent visuals for Furtado. Francis Lawrence would have made an amazing clip for this single, and I would kill to look at his proposed treatment (assuming he has one).
Saw this on TV - All videos considered (not just 'cool videos'), I'd give it a 4/10: decent. Career/image-wise, yeah I'm not sure what's happening here, given her voice. A bit clunky, but some parts do work. Indeed, some of those heli shots are horrid, and Tim does upstage her.
kreeg: L.c.d. urban vid? To some extent, you're right - this apes early-90's Nispel, and heli shots were cliche even then, but I've seen much worse. Anyway, to compare, Erik White's Chingy ft. Tyrese - Pullin' Me Back
As if to confirm my point, Jimmy "Interscope" Iovine had a big puff piece in todays LAT about how wonderful he is. Has Iovine replaced Clive Davis as THE self promoting label type? Anyway, Iovine says this about Furtado "But Iovine felt Furtado's new music was too "mature" — his polite word for uninspired — and he made a mental note that morning: "Timbaland!""

given the surroundings of mtv i would say it actually would stand out and i would like it in the mix. oh wait, that is if mtv played videos.
This has actually already been added to VH1 and MTV. They play vids only if you know where and when to look. Mainly: Skip the Today Show or CNN and spend allllllll of your morning on the Big Three: MTV, MTV2, VH1. Oh wait, that's, uh, um, well, heh, uhhh.. just me, I guess.
It does stand out, though, in America, I agree.
All Good Things (that back To Back item) Notwithstanding Anonymous (Numba 5) over on ‘Chris Pick’s blog’ who thinks “This video is so romantic” It looks suspiciously like the Dynamic Duo raided Ant n Dec’s ‘Help! I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’ Jungle Camp’s set, not only for ideas but props as well Still wot would I know? The music trax is the kinda thing I gather wot 'Jimmy "Interscope" Lovine' woz alluding to in 30f’s post link, it was originally cut with Coldplay’s Chris Martin but it seems he couldn’t hack it Check out the unreleased trax as all that is left of his voice now on the release, is his whistling
Vid preview 'Dailymotion' as it seems to have been pulled from u2b!
This sounds strangely like the 'Bangles - Hazy Shade of Winter' slowed way down. HMMM.... www.youtube.com
