CSS - An idea about as contrived as their music
Guess who's the next band to hold a "green screen contest"?
Nobody saw this one coming, did they? Next, the Klaxons?
shoot me. take me out of my misery. i have lost what little respect i had for CSS.
I'm going to download the full set like 10 or 20 times just to lower the profit margin of the operation and then i'm going to make the music video of the year and keep it for myself.
The singer is cute but hardly key-able. [edit] I'd like to key her after all.
please tell me cat solen is NOT involved.
yay! looks like I can make a sequel to my last one now.
why is everyone so anti CSS, theyre just from Brazil
anti CSS? everyone?
wasn't this band on EVERYONE's top/year end list?
we aren't hating the band, we are hating the fact they would stoop so low as to do another green screen contest. but for the record i was never a fan of CSS the band.
CSS had one great single and a few decent songs, but their album mostly sucks. And yeah it's been said before, but green screen video contests have definitely jumped the shark.
I like CSS but this sucks - I downloaded the footage and it is rubbish - don't bother.
I can see the attraction of trying something like this. I'm sure it stems from the huge viral potential that people have seen from the likes of OK Go and other YouTube phenomena. And I guess the band and label have got nothing to lose.
I'd be very surprised if a label would risk something like this on a single with a scheduled release and marketing push behind it. In other words, I don't suppose it's undermining the MV industry in any way.
I couldn't resist checking the footage. It's H264 compressed. Hmmm. Nice big colour blocks. Hopeless trying to pull a decent chroma key off that.... so it's basically for YouTube, not TV release.
As long as there are people willing to enter it, I don't see why a label wouldn't want to try this kind of contest. They've already done two proper videos, and they're entering the final lap of the album cycle, so why not? However, I think fans and amateur video enthusiasts might eventually catch on to the fact that the videos that come out of these contests aren't as important as the initial publicity that the band receives. A lot of people got burned by the Decemberists, who seemed to have completely forgotten their contest, and the Incubus contest ended with the band changing the rules; Instead of the winning video getting on MTV, the winning director got to meet the band... Ouch.
dear spit thanks. i swear he's not my uncle. just to say we like CSS record and that's why we decided to ask them to enter the video contest. luckily they're brave enough to try something strange and new like this. i don't think the green screen thing it's jumping the shark, i'd like to believe it's just another step about creativity on the web. we'll see. it depends on the quality of the video we'll receive. thx for your feedbacks on this amazing blog.
CSS just sucks. Period. Their music is boring. Except for a hot singer, they have noting going for them.
this idea is a shark jumping another shark

here you go casual....
nicely done
I saw CSS on their North American tour and they were great
