Beat Union - 'She is the Gun' (pre-digibeta panic edit)
This is our latest (Vib Gyor's - 'The Secret' was the last one). Before we burnt to digibeta this morning, BU's plugger had a last-minute panic about its strobe content being frowned upon by MTV, EMAP etc. Hence, another edit this evening. Ofcom's guidelines are a lot stricter thesedays, but what do you think?
Darren.
strobe? i'd more concerned about that queen sample...
put it through the harding test, that will let you know for sure. there has to be a least 3 frames between each changing luminance
Apparently the stompy bit sounds 'similar' to We Will Rock You, that's all.
The Harding machines were what they were worried about. They are a new band, and the management were worried that, if the video failed MTV's (et al.) pre-broadcast tests, then it would cause a bad first impression - which is understandable, of course. 'It's not like they're the Chili Peppers' has someone quoted this morning.
I don't think it's that bad myself. More flickery than strobe-y. Nick (Small, who normally directs our music vids) agreed, too - and he should know - his Skunk Anansie 'Jesus' video is, essentially, 4 minutes of non-stop strobe. LOL www.myspace.com
Interesting though. An issue which effects us all, I suppose, whether we're making or watching music vids.
Darren.
I think you are allowed 6 cuts a second. My last video was more cutty than this and was flagged up to go through the harding machine- it passed with flying colours. I honestly think you will be fine.
anyone have a link to more info on the harding machine?
It was invented by Professor Graham Harding. Here's his site.
And here are the ITC guidelines as a PDF.
The majority (inc. myself) thought they would have been fine. But hey ho. I presuppose that whatever the guidelines are now, will all have to be reconsidered, anyway, once HDTV becomes the norm, and we're all transfixed to 92" plasmas blasting neon, interlaced lasers at us 24/7.
Cheers for the input. (Most of the strobe was replaced before the digi-b went to London, this morning. Shame.)
Darren.
