THE DIRECTORS LABEL NEW DVD???????
I had the chance to go to the NYC book Expo this weekend where I came across a booth that Palm Pictures was at. There they were giving away the Directors Label DVD's along with some of their other films. I asked if they were planning on any other installment of the directors label collection and people that worked for the company said they are hoping to possibably start a DVD on Dayton and Faris very soon. They explained that due to the successful turnout of Little Miss Sunshine, and the fact that they haven't had a team/woman director yet, this may be something interesting to promote. Due to Rights, money, and time, it all makes it hard, but something they were strongly considering. I know there has been talk before about the DVD label ending, but this came straight from horses mouth. Let's all hope it can continue.
I'd been wondering about Dayton/Faris. It would be smart to do them, Mike Mills, Hammer & Tongs, and others solely based on their feature film success.
As a matter of fact, Mike Mills was mentioned as another possible director.
that would be so cool, I love their vidoes for the smashing pumpkins..
Those two are very cool. Did Palm mention any other directors as potentials?
just saw this...
I wonder why fincher refused to release any of his work for a dvd?
In interviews Fincher distanced himself from his spots and promos. As a matter of fact he doesn't like any of his music videos. He claims to have made them only to try out the equipment. Sceptical about advertising he hoped secretly that the people were smart enough not to fall for it. Confer Gavin Smith: Inside Out. In: Film Comment (Sept/Oct 1999), p. 67 (online) and Mark Salisbury: Seventh Hell. In: Empire (Feb 1996), p. 87.
nicely done, thank you sir!
Also, hopefully Corbijn's disc will bring some popularity back to the DLabel now that Control won at Cannes. Hopefully Palm can get some good PR off of that, despite the fact that Corbijn makes great vids anyway.
kevathens, nicely said. Palm pictures had mentioned that very fact about Anton and how they were hoping that his recent film " Control" and the good press and reviews circulating the film will boost sales of the second installment of the directors series. With that, they then hope to have some backing on going forward with any other directors they hope to work on in the future.
