god awful. somebody should just tell Diane Martel to give it up and go back to teaching kid's finger painting or whatever she did before.

Not a favorite video, but I will note that Diane Martel is seemingly totally indestructible. The government should study her.

         

I am not a fan of her work....I think she is way over rated

but I will say this video had something a bit different to it, so I give her a bit of props for not doing the total standard video

that said this to me is like 30k video and she probably made it for like 300k...which I always find to be very funny how that always happens....they say, "we are going to make this really cheap looking video, but we need 300 thousand dollars to make it look like we have no money."

20K is TINY. what do you mean where did all the money go??? they are dealing with A-list talent so figure in stuff like trailers, stylist, make-up, crew, etc.

         

mva: i understand how this job might've been budgeted.

i suppose what i was driving at with my lazy, dumb-assed comment is that 20k is still an awful lot of anyones money to exchange for a poorly conceived and executed video that feels disinterested in (and almost contemptuous of) the music, the band and the band's audience.

jealousy? sour grapes? yes, definitely. i would have loved a stab at this and would have done a helluva lot better, as would any number of up and coming US directors.

I have a hard time believing that a killers video would have a 20k budget attached to it. I also have a hard time believing that this video had more than a 20k budget. I'm confused.

         

Is everyone just bashing this video in hopes that diane martel will re-appear on the board so they can feel special? And for the record 20k isnt enough to get most a-list artists transported to the set, and if you think otherwise then it's clear you havent worked with an a-list artist.

         

i couldn't care less about the budget..... i'm bashing this video because its rubbish. rubbish for 20k or 300k.

         

I am sucker for horses. I think the back story on this one is HD shot "band concept" and as such, it had an incredibly low budget. I don't mind this though. Like I said, I am asucker for horses.

         

for me it is not a super generic video like a band just rocking out and looking cool...at least it is different....i'm not saying i love this video, but i enjoyed that it is going somewhere else.

there is no way, even though this video looks cheap, that it was made for 20k. I just said it looked like a 20k video. This videos budget was a minimum of 100k or higher. I have worked on A-list videos and even if you are doing the most basic video for someone like The Killers, people want to get paid a fair rate and they should.

Its very hip to take a huge band and do a video that looks like a high school student made....which is what Diane Martel did here. She likes playing that card and has the clout to tell artists and labels that is what she is going to do. I get a kick out of it personally. But in no way do i look at this video as brilliant or super cool....just something different.

Which in some odd way I respect.

So where do you reckon all that money was spent on this? Favours abound in our world. Band gets a scratch from director, who gets a scratch from a gaffer then an editor. Editor gets a scratch from an online guy.

I'll agree with Ronster, this is not half as bad as everyone wants to make it out to be.

And if everyone is getting a scratch, and it really is that cheap, well, this is a might more interesting that many things with bigger budgets.

         

wow... you guys are serrious haters... that is really awesome... it was 45k and we paid everyone close to union rates... the horses and the trainers were very pricey, great guys.... ya know fellas... i strive to impress all of you... especially if you happen to be leos, or virgos
