Hurricane Chris "A Bay Bay" : Dir. Bernard Gourley/Bobby Yan

This promo is found under Yan's reel (who is the newest signee to immigrant films) but mtv lists this as being dual directed.
What happened to hip hop music? I can't stand songs that sole purpose it to try and make a hook that becomes a catch phrase. And I equally dislike videos that play up to that, T-Shirts, a huge Trailer, A Bay Baby? There is nothing creative going on here musically or visually. nothing. I love MF Doom/Madlib's MadVillian album, no hooks just flows. beautiful music.
I think it's quite cool. It's got a good vibe and has an unusual, well-filmed slice of Americana as a backdrop. The music is dross though
I've been a Gourley fan for a while but this one really feels like a re-hash of all the major videos he's done: Rich Boy, E-40, Young Buck. Maybe it was Bobby Yan directing it but those long-lens triangular compositions and convenience store performance shots are ripped straight from Gourley's stuff. If he's going to keep doing these kind of videos Bernie should at least use new visual hooks ala the snaking car footage in Rich Boy. It's got a sweet edit though.
It was interesting seeing Three 6 Mafia on their reality show telling one of their proteges, "You gotta give the people what they want." That's been the theme in hip-hop for the last year or so. 50 Cent's one of the few rappers I'm actually enjoying this year.
50 Cent... Really? You liked Amusement Park? To each his own I guess.
i fully agree with otc on this. It totally feels like Gourley by numbers. Having said that i like the video. Adam, i think Hip Hop has become about branding these days. When alot of these songs are "written" they are thinking about the dance club and the parties and what hook is gonna ring out the most. I think with the business being in the state that its in, that is part of the equation for any kind of "career". The more catchy the hook, the more chance, your gonna buy that ringtone. It may not be our cup o' tea, but there is definitely a place for it out there, just like there's a place for Doom and that sort.
wait, three six mafia has a reality show?!
I couldn't help but think of this rapper with a bay-bay www.youtube.com
