50 Cent feat Justin Timberlake & Timbaland- AyoTechnology (Dir: Joseph Kahn)
A good 50 video?
nothing profround or original, but i love joseph kahn. i'm glad he is around.
i wrote about this over here
this is a song about men masturbating to pornography - which is fine - but kahn and crew make that into a source of power for men over women. the female characters here are entirely helpless, and i realize it's fantasy, but i find it revolting.
it's actually worse that it's done so well, it just further emphasizes how oblivious and sexist these artists are. would ANYONE in the music video industry even take one step near a similarly themed video from the female perspective?
that beat is ridiculous.
All this video has is high production value and all the things that stem from that: good photography, good edit/fx etc... but there is a lack of coherance and an embarrassing amount of pretence that no amount of money can hide. Which is how I feel about most of Mr. Khan's videos.
And as for the misogony- its so common-place (almost de rigeur) that I find myself ignoring it, fighting past it. I've accepted only in the sense that a dwarf might accept that he can't push a giant over. It sells the music. Until we place the values of society in higher regard than commerce we have no choice but to suck it up (although I personally would never contribute to that culture).
it's great that hi spec videos like this can and are being made in london. respect to the producer - that must've been quite a number to pull off (and pull it off they definitely have done)
"I'm tired of using technology, why don't cha sit down on top of me?" Class act boys. Totally putting aside the fact that this is a song for onanists... ...this is a video for onanists. A weak wank.
Yes, and onanist not only in content but also in execution. Even the hint of a narrative or character and the customary (and rather more effective) posturing of 50 Cent is completely undermined. Poor lamb doesn't know where to put himself when asked to act.
I also suspect that this may be shaping to ride the surf of the August release of The Bourne Ultimatum. I know Timbaland's mincing his way through a Minority Report pastiche but it's the serious spy look that Fiddy's adopted.
(btw I think the look of the vid is cool)
obtusy - i'd love to hear alexyss tylor's opinion on this...
Director's cut flv
this track is hot. anyone catch 50's vitamin water shot? also, i disagree with obtusity that this song is about sitting at home masterbating to porn. seems to me its about the cat and mouse game played via technology between sexes and ultimately leading to sex. the dating scene has moved to blackberries, iphones, and myspace...which basically leads to one big technological-cocktease, and hence the lyrics in this song.
I love this the most.
50=king of beverages?
Also, I'm not embarrassed to say I enjoyed this video, watched it twice in a row even.
i have been frequenting antville less and less in the past few months... anyone else? i'm not as excited about what i see here these days
very slick; better than anything from the last Timberlake album. Nothing profound concept wise, but very well done styewise. I'd pick this over the Ksnye "Stronger" video anyday (not sure if those two are comparable).
though i would've guessed francis lawrence.... it really looks like his stuff.
Obtusity, there's ''Oops Oh my." It's funny that it is not the converse relationship, but that it seems like the narrator is ogling herself like a man would. According to Wikipedia, Tweet had denied that the song is about masturbation, despite it seeming obvious to everyone.
wank wank wank. and expensively crap wank at that.
it continually astounds me that 50 is even considered a rapper, let alone someone capable of pulling off acting in a video... the man is so wooden he makes keanu look like orson welles.
and mookie - 'cat and mosue game'? pull the other one. there isn't any cat and mouse game, it's all about men controlling women without having to take their clothes off even (wank). do any of the women in this video ever get to us the technology (wank)? do they even get to enjoy themsleves in anything but a slightly violent submissive fashion? nope.
and why does Justin 'wardrobe malfunction' Timberlake always equate sexiness with ripping clothes off / pinning down women? hmmmm. not even freudian, just plain wank.
loz, i was talking about the meaning of the song, not the resulting video. the video is a wankfest, objectifies women, etc etc. but read the lyrics mate. plus why is everyone pretending like objectifying women in music videos is a new thing in this genre? a sudden outcry! thats old hat...yawn.
