Fam-Lay feat Pharrell - Beeper Record (Dir: Hype Williams)
New Hype!
Nothing outstanding, but still more personality than most everything else in the game. Funny how he and Gourley had the same HP rip this week.
I forgot to point out the HP thing lol. Its funny to watch Pharrell act all gangsta.
Kind of funny considering Pharrell was in one of those commercials. Hype must be bored these days. But yeah still good.
Worst video of 2007. Leading the pack like a pregnant wolf.
Hype obviously doesnt give a shit. And if hiphop isn't dead I dont know what it is.
Also, doesn't modern hiphop feel very conservative in a right wing kind of way....?
Overall, this is nothing incorporated. Fuck that 'personality in the game' comment.
I just posted about this video concept.
You just blew my mind, lusk. That'd be the story of the year, right? Southern rap's near-religious obsession with bling finally kills hip-hop, I guess?
I thought the future of hip-hop was about technology, but maybe it's the opposite.
I believe lusk is right. Even pop music (with artists as disparate as Amy Winehouse and High School Musical getting mainstream radio attention) does more surprising things than hip-hop these days. Most rap is not just insidet he box, but carefully measured so that it is in the EXACT center of the box - where no one will make fun of you for trying too hard or acting "corny" or "gay".
I was hoping Kanye would say he's gay so that the glass ceiling would finally be broken, but he very well may not be gay.
And by "corny" I take it you mean "white," I guess?
ummm ... (eyes flash left and right) lets say "corny" means "un-urban".
Meanwhile, Dr. King starts rolling in his grave.. (about the black/white thing, who knows if he ever said anything about GLBT folkses such as m'self.)
that shit was cool....
nah. that's got about as much effort put into it a wet turd.
i was almost putting up with the stills until they started to directly rip off an HP advert with him pushing photos around the screen... of all the lazy, crap, devices.... the wide crop is lazy... the money imagery is lazy... the shot of the girl's ass is lazy... the whole thing is rap with a silent c.
agree with lusk - US mainstreem rap's been going more conservative/right wing for ages. but what about the indie scene? plenty of good + intelligent stuff coming out of stones throw/quannum etc, but you never seem to see videos for it? howkum?
I absolutely love the track...however the video seems like Hype going through the motions. He's coming off the "Stronger" vid, though, which was stunning. I can't blame him for wanting to go back to the formulaic, especially if the track carries this video almost completely.
Stronger...stunning? What the hell are you talking about? If you mean a senseless over priced retread of Hype's old ideas fused with Akira, endless reshoots and an inconsequential daft punk cameo stun the fuck on.
I don't mean to come down on you, but of course you can blame Hype. Hype is a rich, boring tired-ass old man who hasn't been interesting since the millenium at least.
He's basically the Dick Cheney of music videos.
Track is good, but this is a video blog and this video is garbage. Could Hype possibly give less of a shit?
Ps. American rap has been locked into Reganomic conservativism for more years now than I care to think about. For an artform that used to give voice to the disenfranchised, its a pretty sad state of affairs, and I hope people understand that big whitey pushed shit in this direction for a reason.
the reason's money isn't it? same reason everything goes down the shitter.
