video hosting
I was wondering if anyone has considered hosting videos on the stage6 site at divx.com (stage6.divx.com). I know almost all the old school antvillians use QT for their video links but it might be an alternative given the poor video quality of youtube hosted videos. Opinions?
There are better alternatives that doesn't force you to use proprietary software for encoding and uploading, like Blip.tv
But perhaps not everybody is allowed (or wants) to show his work in full quality.
blogothèque is testing stage6 for their concerts à emporter - tho the quality is nice, i'm with dek: there are all kinds of reasons to avoid codec proliferation; h.264 still remains the best option among the current standards (which is why you find it in the industry sites - beam.tv, chillibean, adbeast, blip and suchlike - as well as on the major (non-paranoid) prod co sites. (oh, and: death to flash! knowing full well of course, that thanks to u2b, flash will outlive us all...)
yeah, i love stage6. check out my videos: stage6.divx.com
The problem is that we need DivX plugins and we can't download. :(
i like Stage 6, and you can download off of there, you just click the down arrow next to the play arrow. And it's pretty HQ all in all. A 2:30 min vid file comes across at about 27mb
Anyone seen this?: www.readwriteweb.com Adobe is adding h264 to flash.
you just click the down arrow next to the play arrow
The "down arrow" only shows if you have the DivX player installed. DivX used spy-ware in the past, so I (and a lot of people like me) will never install their software on my machine, at least until they release it as open source.
P.S. DivX is just an implementation of MPEG-4 ASP, and not even the better. Latest versions of XviD achieve better results, especially at higher bitrates; and XviD is open source.
P.P.S. Downloading stuff without the plug-in is very easy, but that's another story...
Adobe is adding h264 to flash.
And AAC! Sweet: that would mean remuxing FLVs into MP4s without re-encoding. Couldn't they just use it from the beginning instead of the VP6 codec? Go figure...
i don't know why but something about the way stage6 looks just bugs me. of course the divx compression is awesome but those files are still space whores.
