SAMUEL BAYER WEBSITE NOW UP
I liked this guy's work until I watched the 'making of' doco for Green Day's 'Boulevard..' video.
Sweaty ol' Sam is seen stomping all over the film neg and sticking cigarettes in it, etc. Whatever. But then he had the effrontery to turn around and say, 'I'm the only director out there damaging film like this before post- production...' Paraphrased. You get the gist.
The only corporate director, maybe.
D.
XGF: I couldn't find that clip. But I did find 3 behind the scenes clips for the My Chemical Romance video. The first part includes a montage of Bayer flipping out:
He likes a good ol'flip-out, doesn't he.
I'm in the UK so chances are the GD doco was a UK production - BBC, MTV Europe, something like that.
Will watch the clips in a sec.
Darren.
I've found the Green Day doco clips.
Pt.1 uk.youtube.com
Pt.2 uk.youtube.com
I haven't got time to rewatch them, so you'll have to do it for me and then tell me if my memory of what ol'Sweaty McSweat said is correct.
Cheers, Darren.
Bayer is one great mv visualist, but watching these docs, doesn't it feel like he's got some kind of huge substance abuse problem....
XGF: And here's part 3:
It's at 03:00 on Part 3 which is what I was trying to remember. He 'dares' any director to 'rip off' his 'idea' of vandalizing film neg with razor blades. There were Surrealists and Absurbists doing this to 16mm a hundred years ago.
And yeh, it sounds like a lot of coke gone up those sweaty nostrils of his.
