TOPIC: Omnipresent Youtube tags??
Now, don't judge what I was trying to watch--it was for work, honest ma--just look at the lower right-hand corner of the video:
Aaah shit, embedding was disabled by request. ANYWAY, does anyone else see the YT tag? Is this new? Is it soon going to bleed into every video put on youtube? Am I going to have to cut a bitch?
I realize Yahoo and AOL already do this, and Myspace too (tho theirs isn't in the raw flash file). But Youtube? Really?
I'm angry. Almost embarrassingly so.
that's not new. universal is one of a few "channels" that disables embedding by request.
if you really wanted to embed that video from youtube, just do another search for it. there are usually more than one copy of most videos... in this case, you could use this one to embed instead: www.youtube.com
weluv, i believe jumpy's complaining about the burnt-in u2b logo, not the non-embed. hadn't really noticed m'self. it's in the flv awrite...
that is really dumb. And sneaky. Which makes it smart. Or is that evil?
(thanks progosk, i was really tired earlier when i read the post)
as someone who takes a lot of screen caps from youtube (for the front page of my website), i can tell you that the YT tag isn't new... the thing that's new is that it's a lot more obvious than it used to be (the tag used to be lighter).
I thought jumpy was referring to the Advertisement that plays in the bottom portion of the screen OVER the video. Give it a minute after the video starts playing and it should show up, although not always. One more reason YouTube links should be banned on this forum, IMHO.
Well, you could move to China where it now appears that youtube is entirely blocked.
No big problem since I rely on downloadable files anyway. I always appreciate it, and give you my greatest thanks, when any streaming file is made accessible as a downloadable file here on this site. Of course the odd censorship issues continue to vary and some sites I love (dekku.blogspot.com) or find useful (wikipedia) are now only directly available once in awhile, if ever. My students are much better at finding their way through the maze of censorship walls than I ever will be.
nihao, moose. i presume you've studied your options...?

D'oh! Maybe you could subscribe to my RSS feed/podcast. If Feedburner is blocked too, you can always use an online feed aggregator, like Meefedia, or check it from Digg. Obviously you still need access to nofatclips.com where the content is stored.

About the Youtube watermark, it's a channel choice. They like it that way: non embeddable, crappy encoded (Universal videos are encoded at a resolution if 160x120) and mutilated. The watermark is not present on ordinary user's video, and it's only superimposed (it's in the player, not in the video) when you embed one.
The idea of blocking music videos seems senseless to me (as does all censorship - people will find out anyway).
progosk - I have studied some options, but I will look more closely at what else is available (many of the "options" are also unavailable). They just LOVE to block alternative opinions here. I don't expect much change because of the 2008 event, just fewer true source options. The rsf website is not surprisingly blocked here (one of the links from boingboing).
dek - I can sometimes get onto your site and when the address of the video is known I have been able to access it at nofatclips even when the blogspot address is blocked. The blogspot address is working today so I am happy. The feedburner address "...SitiamoTanto" is blocked, although the main address is ok (it is owned by Google so I am not surprised part is blocked - they did a deal with China).
The joys of China and information acquisition (I never wanted to have to become a detective just to find music videos). The fun of discovering hidden news gems can be interesting though, although it causes problems of its own when your web use is tracked...
