Busdriver "Casting Agents and Cowgirls" (dir. Matt Dilmore)

Via Pitchfork pitchforkmedia.imeem.com
dope song and even dope-er video
love the weird dot on his head and the candy dangling from strings
seriously one of the best things out there right now
The song is pretty good I want to know more about this artist. The video?...hmmmm.
Did your finger slip when you posted earlier Rambo I notice you posted twice. I guess in your haste to post your overwhelmingly positive comment after viewing a 3 minute 20 video a mere 13 minutes after the clip was posted on antville you just got a little overexcited…easy there tiger.
yeah, my connection here is slow and i posted the same thing twice!
does anyone know if there is an MOV file of this one?
Busdriver is dope. He came up in the same spoken word cafe as one of the dudes from the Pharcyde from memory.
Great clip too. Sweet colours, simple and cost effective whilst looking shit hot.
i dont find this video at all interesting and the song gives me a headache.
pretty cool clip with some great little moments in there that arent standard hip hop fare
busdriver continuing to push things, creatively, as an artist...glad these visuals match his rhymes
I find his flow irritatingly heavy on the end of the beat. I feel like not being inside the beat makes rappers sound goofy and disjointed. I'm into some of the video though, it could all be much more dynamic.
I think some camera movement would have put this over the top. ;D -j
is that a real cake?
Some beginnings of what could one day be nice ideas. Candy on strings was ok.... But no magic here. Just a guy in a room rapping shot on video with bad lighting.
I'm guessing you guys who don't like this clip don't like indie hip-hop either?
the beauty of this clip as that no dumb arse directors with big 'concepts' were let anywhere near it.
Too often I've seen good music ruined and sold out by concept jockeys just wanting to try a new technique and having no understanding of the music. Go busdriver!!
So you're saying Jonze's video for The Pharcyde is simply a concept jockey attempt?
Are you also saying that the beauty of this video is that its boring and poorly crafted?
as a veteran (and fan) of the LA underground hip hop scene, i can assure you, there are TONS of low budget videos that get made that are completely boring and have zero concept
that said, this video is not one of them as it showcases busdriver's personality and surrounds him with subtly nuanced characters in a way that isnt annoying or trying too hard...i, for one, think this is incredibly well crafted, with each sequence feeling new and thought out...plus, for something that is presumably operating on a shoestring, i think the filmmakers were able to cram a lot into this clip
furthermore, parmezan, i like how you are comparing this video to a spike jonze video that came out over a decade ago...that's a really fresh frame of reference...and while we are on it, dont you remember (again, in the mid 90s, albeit) when you heard about the Drop video from your friends and then you saw it and realized that they didnt even get the backwards lip synch thing down as well as they could have?
anyway, i think that for an underground hip hop video--especially one that isn't overtly political in stance--this is a fully realized vision...it just comes down to a viewer's taste, ultimately...to dismiss a video or song as being 'boring' isn't really bringing anything constructive to the conversation
i like the composition and the visiual fantasie.very nice locations, too. where did they shoot this? looks like turkey, iran or afganistan
Hello Brainman,
I'm sure there are a lot of low budget videos made in the LA hip hop scene, as does happen in most music circles. I don't see why the Drop video isn't relevant simply because it was made a decade ago, I has a similar aesthetic and has Busdriver in it for god's sake. I'm not sure what your point is. If you'd read the previous comment by knomadix, then you could have put that comment into context.
Like I said, there are what could have been some good ideas, but if the director wanted the Eminem-style locked off shots with wacky elements then it needed to have higher production values (ie shot on film or at least nicer lenses or getting a professional to handle the lighting). I can see what he was trying to do though, just didn't quite get there.
ah yes....
another anti-hip hop antville post
hmmmmmm....
Candelbra, I couldn't care less what genre the music is.
