Text from radiohead site: "Its a kind of video thing to go with Videotape using lots of wierd techniques we were messing with. Nigel and I really enjoyed making it at the end of last year."
When a band such as Radiohead known for a rich culture of artwork around them choose to communicate in a self-made lo fi language its a pretty curious thing. While none of the new videos associated with the album have excited me anywhere near as much as the album itself, I still find myself totally fascinated with what they are putting out there. Just as I awaited their fantastic video-beam performance on New Years, I clicked on this video with great hopes.
Feeling a little disappointed, it dawned on me that all of these little surveillance camera style confessions remind me very much of a a sci-fi film in which Radiohead's studio has been turned into a far off spacecraft. These video messages remind me of scenes from Kubrick's 2001 or Boyle's Sunshine when video messages are beamed home. Sort of gives it a new light for me.
Sorry to banter.
Can't get the Dead Air Space stream to work for this (I don't trust You Tube for a video that seems to glory in pixel paste). Any ideas..?
It's interesting comparing band-made, fan-made, and professional videos. All of them such distinct vibes. -j
