AZ feat Styles P- The Hardest Out (Dir: Dan The Man)
Very Experimental Hip Hop video
love it. The bullet time camera was designed by Graffiti Research Labs, who post their tutorial on how to build a bullet time camera rig( www.instructables.com)
They're also the people who built (and open sourced) the L.A.S.E.R. tagging system, seen in the video doing those huge tags.
Really interesting. Sorry to get a bit semantic or meta for a second but experimental? There are new techniques being shoehorned into a hip hop video, if that's what y'mean, Fiction. The band crew (shit, whadda you call a hip hop outfit?) look a bit caught in headlights. I guess that's what might be experimental. To me it seems that you've got to integrate the group (a-ha!) into the innovations - rather like Spike Jonze's Drop for Pharcyde.
I think those are the band members in the bullet time / Sprint commercials light trails.
It's actually a pretty awesome hip-hop video, though everything is 'bited' from something else. but imagine how awesome this would have been 2 years ago....
nice. light pen on grafitti is a really nice touch, less into the bullet time - just seen too many times. but def a cut above most hip-hop vids at this level.
re. integrating the group - i'm guessing only possible if the group is actually any good... i mean, pharcyde, possible the most original hip-hop outfit of the 90s. these guys? uh-uh.
whats so experimental about this mv? in this one below the bullet time effect integrates better with the 'story'
as for the tagging, i think that good ole eyeball nyc video would make any other subsequent use look pale in comparison
