Rage!

in searching for a new music video my partner and I made for the band spoon, I became aware of Rage... a popular australian music video channel that will apparently broadcast anything you send them...
the channel is late night, features no vj's... back to back videos... what more could we as music video directors ask for from a broadcast outlet?!
read more about them on wikipedia
and here's the official rage website
here's a sample playlist from february 16th, 2008 when our video actually first screened... 5am on a saturday morning... and the ONE time it screened, some fan recorded it and posted it to youtube already... amazing!
I'll post the url to the high-res video next, but this whole thing was an interesting discovery... watching "viral" happen in realtime... and also noting how awesome this rage program is... apparently the longest running music video show ever produced (since the demise of sooooooul train).
it's a little involved, and cryptical to navigate, but you can actually download all their archives as decent quality wmv's. (for example, here is Eskimo Disco's "7-11" (feat. Pingu).) delve in from here.
rrrrrrraaaaaaaage
a bloody pearler of a show!
grew up on the stuff. "RAGE!!" (is how the whole thing starts off each friday and saturday night) + the Iggy Pop medley with a rage whisper finale.
There was a big deal about two years ago when Rage asked the public if they should update their 1980's intro (aforementioned) and there came back a resounding no! With outrage to boot.
Solid as bedrock, a classic Auntie Institution that hopefully will never be the victim of cutbacks.
I can still remember watching "Come to Daddy" for the first time on RAGE early one Saturday morning. Had barley heard of Aphex Twin and certainly never heard of Cunningham but that one first viewing changed my life.
I love ABC and I vote.
Rage is amazing. It changed my life. I sent them my first music video and they played it just after midnight the same night as my birthday party. I haven't looked back.
The best thing about it is that it really encourages people to make videos in the knowledge that they are actually going to wind up on the telly. As a result Australia has a strong culture of people making inovative music vids for bands that no ones heard of. The big difference hear is that you are either doing well and on MTV or you dont exist.
The other great thing is that there is something worth watching after the pub on a friday night.
Founded by legendary director Dale "RAGE" Resteghini. Mastermind behind the hip hop ninja.
Not bad, quite cool uhh... Wondered 'bout that logo since i've clocked it on clips over the last few years. Fly in ointment, can't actually play the downloads off-line can u?
i did say it was a bit... involved. let the wmv load in the rage player, then save it via the flip4mac-qtplayer triangle, lower-right. or else save the hi$.asx to your desktop, then open it with a text editor and find the right http...wmv link to d/l.
Understand clearly wot ur saying mate, but even then or even using SDP or streambox I can't capture Can't see 'cause I'm using a PC would make a difference Not overbothered, just thought it'd be an interesting exercise but it's got me beat!
other way to put it: the syntax after the http thing is always of this kind: media3.abc.net.au/broadbandrage/20080307_2300/theCountAndSniden_beeper_hi.wmv , the variables being the show date and the band's name (note position of upper case letters) and track title (same upper-case rule applies when it's more than one word).
It's no less than exactly what I have been doing The only thing that I can download is varibles on the auld asx or wvx extentions I can get no further
Can't figure why? Its a reason I use SDP as a fallback, but its failed me in this case
Speaking of rage in Aussie, just across the ditch in New Zealand you can send links to your videos to dan@alttv.co.nz or mail em to 171a Karangahape Road, Newton, Auckland, New Zealand and I'll put em on our rotates. I come across here daily to pinch videos to put on our station. ( www.alttv.co.nz / en.wikipedia.org ) 24hour music video channel nationally broadcast around New Zealand. No pop though ;) ie) nothing MTV plays.
