If anything it owes a debt to "I Believe in a Thing Called Love." It seems strange to me how both this and the Darkness video are throwback/parodies of some sort of hair metal aesthetic that I don't think ever existed. I can't really think of any 80s metal videos with the same sort of slick/abstract set designs that these videos use. Correct me if I'm wrong though, I didn't exactly grow up with Headbanger's Ball.

I thought the 30 second spot they cut out of this was pretty cool, but now that I see the full version its even more fabulous. Kuntz 4 Prez 08.

otc, it seems like a combination of hair metal showmanship and that prog sci-fi/fantasy stuff from the 70s that Tenacious D always makes fun of. On top of that, it seems to play with the conventions of big-budget 90's era hype williams videos.
