Katy Perry 'I Kissed a girl' DIR. KINGA BURZA

hmmmmm, errrrrrrrr,
I really hope they did not waste much money on this, pretty terrible.....eeeeeeeeeeesh !
$70k
Fuck that bullshit talk. Kinga's a perfect director for this. It's a solid track. Video is a tad flat. Could've been more visceral but on paper is a great coupling of director and artist.
This video was cute, controversial, and interesting... thirteen years ago when Jill Sobule did it.
this song is retarded. feels so forced.
I can't tell if this is a joke. It's that bad.
"Fuck that bullshit talk. Kinga's a perfect director for this. It's a solid track. Video is a tad flat. Could've been more visceral but on paper is a great coupling of director and artist."
Lusk81: If I were the director of this, I would find your stupid comment insulting and dishonest. Both this video and the song are obviously awful, I would say even the director would be well aware of this.
There is just no disguising how bad this is. Bad styling, bad (or no) concept, bad lazy direction, bad song.
lusk: i'm with the naysayers on this one.
Not my kind of music, but I think Burza has done a good job with this one.
The one thing that annoyed me, however, was the fact that Perry wasn't lipsynching at all well (she obviously wasn't singing during shoot).
I think the post-processing could have been improved. Low-contrast and reddish hue isn't helping.
Well done for the market, target group and client, but lousy if you imagine that this is kingas first us-and-a production. Its so commen-sense-esque, that theres no need to hire an upcoming uk director... Awaiting the next Kate-Nash-promo. Or much better: Stricken City.
C'mon people, it opens with a girl on a bed stroking her pussy. Sold.
70k might sound alot, but when you factor in high priced glam costs and A team crew it adds up fast. Would have been nice with one more setup but whatevs.
wow, the A Team was the crew??? Brilliant
Was Hannibal on camera, with Mr T as grip?
I like the Guy Bourdin references. It's a pop video folks, give it a break...
It really pisses me off when I read people on this site writing comments like;
"I like the Guy Bourdin references."
What happened to being original? cool to be 'referencing' but ripping off an artists framing and artistic style?
Guy Bourdin would turn in his grave over this shit....
Give it a break? Give us a break(!) - pop video or not, no excuse for lame laziness. 70k - it kills me!, what a COMPLETE waste of money - especially when you look at what Alberton did for Muscles in LA for likely less than half of that budget. He used Matthew Libatique - you do not get more of an 'A' team crew than that however, at least his had some sign of artistic integrity.
Sorry, I just cant stand this excuse for film-making it is truly depressing when you see non-talented style-mongers screw up budgets like this.
Buggles, the label is probably ecstatic about the video. The artist is probably ecstatic about the video. Katy Perry's fanbase is probably ecstatic about the video. It'll get added all over vh1 and mtv and it'll be a hit online too. I'm sure that for 70k (a pretty meager amount for a big pop video) everyone involved is ok with the fact that it isn't 100% original and groundbreaking. Not everything needs to be.
hey buggles...you clearly don't have a clue about the purpose of music videos as a marketing tool. The expectations and budget are all relative to the market they are aimed at.
comparing Albertin's Muscles video to this mainstream, mass market POP video is ridiculous and naive. They are opposite ends of the video spectrum.
The Muscles video was around 15k (UK) by the way
Ok, granted - bad example to compare to a video like Muscles.
"The artist is probably ecstatic about the video. Katy Perry's fanbase is probably ecstatic about the video. It'll get added all over vh1 and mtv and it'll be a hit online too"
I am sure you are right - but that clearly just shows how BAD the music video industry has become.
I still feel that being a mainstream pop video is not an excuse to make a completely terrible video. There have been countless cases to prove this...
What is depressing here is that a so called up-coming director from a creative co. like partizan is driven to having to make shit like this.
I do not care if MTV play this or if Katy Perry and her lame fans love it. It is still complete shit for the kind of people who dig pop idol to be the future of music.
Buggles, this is a pop song about girls kissing one another, not the latest Bjork promo. The label was probably looking for something that felt cool and sexy and 'now', and it looks like they got it.
And as for how "bad" the music video industry has become, isn't it progress that a "Guy Bourdin" reference sneaked into this at all? 10 years ago this would've looked like "Hit Me Baby One More Time". Furthermore, I'm not really sure how you could complain about the entire industry going bad. Obviously, there will always be good work and bad work. The golden age of budgets might be over (maybe that's what you're referring to), but great videos are still being made.
Budget- Amen and Amen...last 2 comments
I'm going to go watch that Radiohead remix vid again, because pretty much everything else over the last few weeks has sucked -- doubly, in comparison to that.
I thought the video was OK, like shot well and a decent look.
but I have to admit after hearing the song, I was like I wonder if they did something daring with this video and after watching it you quickly realize they did nothing at all with it.
the stroking the pussy cat in the beginning I thought was a good start but if that is as far as you go with a song like this you are in all honesty pretty tame.
Perhaps your hands are tied as a director and the label or whoever tells you not to be bold....than I say pass on the project
If the director choose not to push the envelope on this one than I say why take it?
You are a reflection of your work and this reflection is very plain and average.
frame I would have thought she woz stroking Mrs. Slocombe's pussy rather than her own
As for the Jill Sobule clip you are probably right a1bat (however 'was' is the operative word)
Traxs fine I'll go wiv lusk on that.
As for t'Guy Bourdin references, n' Alberton Muscles video budget bull, sounds as exciting as the daily postings on the EPUK list
And lastly trust ronster to ruin a perfectly good Innuendo by letting the cat outta t'bag!
70k "might sound like a lot" because it is in terms of a music video in the present day, yes, even for a pop song with major label backing. i've seen better looking, more creative, more complex, more interesting to watch videos shot AND had crazy post and effects done on them for much, much less. and i love a good pop video. i just wish for 70k they could have held my attention. the location, casting, and set design are easily comparable to a video with half the budget. and if a video is going to center blatantly around the artists "sex appeal" they should probably be a little less weird looking. just saying.
re kinga: she clearly likes what she likes, girls, pastry, cheesy 80's poses and expressions, but she has a style, and her work looks good, its appealing. granted nothing pushing the envelope here, but the song is pure bubble gum pop, let it be what it is. and most importantly, 2,796,247 people have watched the video on youtube and it was posted less a month ago!!!! dude, heavy!
2,796,247 people have watched the video on youtube
= 2,796,247 blokes (most probably)
And jus' to reiterate I've nuffin against trax or clip!
hey does anyone know who the DP was on this shoot and what stock he used?
