Definitely one of the worst live performances I saw at Coachella this year. I really don't understand their appeal.
MTV doesn't like Canadians. :P -j
surprised it took them this long to do a followup video. Not bad; but not very impressive. Just a tracking shot with stuff happening. Band looks good though.
The chapter titles bug me. They don't serve a purpose; and it's counterintuitive to use them in a one-take video.
Apparently the scenes are based on their favorite movie scenes. Anyone recognize any of them? Hard Day's Night at the end maybe?
I find the dull muted paddock coloration quite refreshing. This works as a one shot its not overly complicated but has enough movement and changing scenes to keep my attention to the end. Definately appreciate it in terms of choreography and timing - the enjoyment is looking at background characters and the camera movement and thinking about which bits the director would have been excited about - which bits they nailed and which bits were a bit off.. wonder how many takes?
guess richard hates editors.
blazing saddles, Butch Cassidy, Royal Tennebaums?
Medium Cool maybe, but i've never seen it.

Yes I know they (VW) can play but they're still unmitigated shite!

Videos that use Futura Bold in their titles/gfx should be a whole sub-genre! Wes Anderson has a lot to answer for...
....and this reminds me of his Amex commercial, no? Also, is the guy getting shot a nod to Raiders of The Lost Ark?
anderson has said that he would like to make videos but finds it hard to find the time. having said that, who needs him to make vids when you have people making vids like this. it's pure anderson.
here's that american express ad: www.youtube.com
I found this really exciting back in 1968 when I first saw it in Sympathy for the Devil, FFS
where'd you hear that shat? last i knew, anderson got sent a white stripes track, budget 200k. his response, "is that my fee?"
i don't think he'd do videos for the love of it
I don't think wes is interested in any music post 1990 anyways. Unless it's sigur ros.
He said that in a tv interview. Can't remember which one now... He nearly did a video for Jason Schwartzman's band and a he listed a few other more popular acts but I can't remember (wish I could!). He might have been lying of course, but he doesn't strike me as a man who does things for the money (!) plus you can tell he loves music almost as much as film by watching his films. A lot of his films have long music led montage sequences, which he says he really enjoys putting together.
Cheers for t'ad clip shatner entertaining
Yes, I love that wes Anderson ad! :) But that ad is of course a hommage / borrowing very heavily from Francois Truffauts 'Day for Nigth'.. Even the small geisha bit is a truffaut/doinel reference, no?
really nice! works beautifully with the music, and for once a one-shot video that actually deserves to be once shot!
to be truthful, i like it more than wes anderson films. less fucking smug.
