Cansei De Ser Sexy // Rat Is Dead // Dir. Nima Nourizadeh
i was kinda hoping this would go somewhere. maybe it's nice it didn't. I don't know. Really indecisive today...
First summer video I actually want to see... and 5 seconds in, it all goes to hell. :( Was there even an execution here? If this band is going to survive long enough to produce at least another CD then the next video should get it's act together and go somewhere. Or hey, when in doubt, stick to a pretty performance clip. CSS, as we all know, work the performance video very well.
You got 5 seconds in??
K
well, sorry to say, i can dig it.
it ain't clever, but it does the job well, looks nice and doesn't take itself too seriously. plus i've got a soft spot for the drunken-camera-style.
...and for ONCE a one-take video that wasn't all 'walking around with scene changes and people coming in at specific times and oooh isn't the director clever', y'know? just straight nutty performance.
oh man...
quite disappointed with this one... loved the first album and this is single is not that great and don't get me started on the video =/
I don't get the haters on this site. They must either have no idea how music videos are made and commissioned today or just enjoy being trolls.
"You got 5 seconds in??" Kalstark... really...?
Pretty much the whole industry reads this site, so I think a level of sensitivity would be the human thing. But nah...
shoplifter, eat a dick.
xbigload
faaaaaaaaantastic.
mov, anyone?
Hey Shoplifter,
Mostly I was cracking a lame joke but there was some truth there. That said, I also work in the industry. I know how tough it can be. I've struggled to get jobs and lost pitches to quite a few big names recently (frustrating to see them swimming in my budget pool). ;)
And yeah, quite a few industry folks check the site but as far as I'm concerned that's all the more reason to have a place where no punches are pulled. With all the uber suck-uppery that takes place in our industry it can be tough to get anything near an accurate gauge of the quality of your work.
So, if Nima can come to a place where people who love videos and pay attention to them can comment freely on his work then that's a good thing.
...Hey Nima, your latest video, in my anonymous opinion, wasn't very good. I think you can do better and I've seen you do better. I don't know what constraints you were working under but as long as they give you enough money to field a crew and a camera you can create something worthwhile. I'm pretty confident that we'd agree on that.
In closing, you have talent and at the end of the day history will judge all of us creative types more on the quality of our work than on its quantity. Do better; not cause you must but because you can.
K
That last comment was like a school report! Must try harder next time!!
I think Nima gets the last laugh. He gets to make videos for a living. Some good. Some great. Some bad. But he doesn't waste his time here dissing other peoples work as i'm sure he's got better and more creative things to do.
Any of your work you care to show the class, K?
the worst part about this is that it's just a cheap ripoff of Daughter's "feel it all" for Feist. www.youtube.com
@scooper: nope.
wow quite the flaming going on here...
well hey the video is fine didnt mean to offend but come on the song is ok... and just ok regardless of how cute the band members are.
they have sung better stuff...
@piore: yeah, although I thought it was more homage (lets be positive) to KT Tunstall
I think its a great vid. Love the outfits, lighting and camera work. Anything more would have been too much for this band right now. Spot on!
Seems good in terms of a performance video. It sometimes feels rewarding to pull off a good performance video and for the general public thats sometimes all they need to see. I guess though for most people on this site and anybody that has any interest in music videos its more exciting to see something that doesn't involve the band performing with their instruments. Who knows though, I would think nima would have enough of a reputation to pitch anything he likes for a video and get to do it but then again the majority of record labels still think seeing the band performing the song is the best marketing tool they have. This video is fine with me, not one of my favourites of Nima's but to expect him to make something amazing every time he puts his directors shoes on is simply unrealistic.

"sigh"- i really hate antville. it's become nothing but an anonymous bitching school yard full of wannabe directors that get a thrill out of putting down working directors' work.
with the industry in a volatile state it's a hard time for everyone trying to make videos right now and useless nit-picking don't encourage no one.
NIMA if you can even bother to read what's disappointingly become of this crap site, don't listen to any of the criticism on here. It's a charming video.....i think most of these brats on here are just jealous haters....
