FC Kahuna ~ Hayling {2002}

Hey, thanks for the post. Great tune & have to say the HARDSTAFF rocks it pretty hard. Always loved his PINNING PLATES.
Although the other has it's merits too. I'll have to find it in better RES. for a fresh look.
Thanks again.
Flynn Fox's was pretty mind-blowing to me back in 2002[1?]. I hadn't really seen CG used to emphasize organic and atmospheric.
hardstaff's by a mile
wow, never saw the hardstaff one before - really nice. personally, lynn fox wins it for me: the cg still looks great, even 6 years on. and (this is nickpicking) but something about the non-interaction between singer & CG in orig leaves me wanting. that's not a reason to re-make it tho!
I didn’t even know this was remade, or I forgot about the Lynn fox version.
I can still remember seeing the Johnny Hard staff version on TV waaaay back in like 2002 and being absolutely mesmerized by it.
I can’t remember seeing the Lynn fox version although it seems vaguely familiar.
And that’s kind of what its all about for me, while with Hardstaff there is energy, tension, pace, beauty and conflict Lynn fox is just sort of…stuff happening.
Yes the design is beautiful and the level of craft undeniable but that’s about it.
I always felt that these two directors have never really got out of Chris Cunningham's shadow. Both are fine designers but most of their video work is too influenced by CC for me.
Ah, that beautiful video... so many years ago, still packs a punch. Any luck with a downloadable version? I remember capturing this one (from that very page?) with SnapzPro.
Ah, good size and quality. Thanks a million, kevathens!
the lynn fox version was the first commissioned for what seemed a miniscule £5k and for the label city rockers.
personally speaking i think its one of the best videos i've ever been involved with in terms of sheer joyous emotion - the pitch took the passage from the play when romeo first sees juliet and was about an undersea leviathan being seduced by a ball of light - but also the sense of satisfaction with something so beautiful for what seemed a tiny amount of money.
you reallly need to see a hi-res version to understand just how sophisticated the animation was compared to the industry standard at the time and it very much led to the foxes working with bjork when they took the translucency thing to new levels with 'nature is ancient'.
the johnny hardstaff version was £35k is also totally spellbinding though there were some lessons learned on making videos for producer albums - if you have a beautiful featured vocalist its very easy to end up making a video for them rather than the 'artists'.
johnny's concept drawings were unbelievable - where are they now? - and i still think its a crying shame we've not seen more from him in the world of music video.
