The Killers "Human" Dir: Danny Drysdale

ugh. So many bad decisions in one video, it's actually kind of fascinating.
what do you think are bad decisions?
I'm noticing a line in big bands releasing pretty bland records and the videos being equally uninspired.
The new videos from Snow Patrol, Keane, Razorlight and this Killers track all seem completely old. Well made. But old. And not in a good way.
Surely the Razorlight one is tongue in cheek? it's awful.
wow, really bad. Bland. Boring. Cheesy.
It IS like an 80s video, in the worst way possible.
What the fuck were those random shots of animals??? Is this an endangered species anthem or something?
I'm surprised they didn't at least try to cut it quickly. Those long shots they just hold on the lead singer feel like you're watching dailies.
This probably had a great budget and the Killers could probably have worked with any director they wanted to. Hopefully the next couple singles fair better.
Well I was trying not to be a complete dick but here goes.
Bad decision #1: The chorus of the song is so mindblowingly dumb that it discredits the whole rest of the three and a half minutes. But I suppose that's beside the point.
#2: Making a no concept performance video and then not planning out any of your shots. I mean it looks like they just slapped down a dolly and had the grip push it back and forth a bunch of times while the operator tried really hard to keep Flowers in frame. Speaking of which...
#3: This is probably the only big budget video I can think of where you actually see unintentionally sloppy camera work left in the finished product. It looks like they didn't rehearse the dolly moves at all.
#4: The edit is also really bad. There's no sense of excitement or pace and the dissolves suck the energy out of it. Especially when it's dissolving to a static cutaway of the killer's faces composited onto set lights(!?!).
#5: The shitty looking vignette effect that they decided to put on every shot.
#6: The aforementioned random animals, which gives the confusing impression that the video is trying to make some kind of statement. It's like Spike Jonze's Island in the Sun video without the humor (which was the whole point).
#7: The Killers come off as fairly lame in this. Not just because of Flower's overemoting or feathered (!?) suit but also because of the half-assed "let's make them look spontaneous" cutaways. Martel's "Read My Mind" video did a much better job of this but then again that was the whole concept of the video. Either do it or don't do it, just don't be half-assed.
#8: Why are there random helicopter shots of the desert in here? Why would you rent a helicopter in the first place if you didn't have a reason for it? Or I'm guessing that perhaps they flew out to the location in a helicopter so they figured "why not shoot something" in which case it would have been best just to leave it out.
Anyways...
The above poster is a person of refined distinction. This is godawful.
